How to enter the Wrath of the Lich King Classic and the Borean Tundra and Howling Fjord? We will show you which path you need to take in WoW Classic.
Finally, the time has come. On the night of September 26 to September 27, the gates of Wrath of the Lich King Classic will open and hundreds of thousands of players will stream back to Northrend to complete their quests. However, many players are under the misconception that Horde and Alliance have fixed starting points where they must begin their journey.
This is not the case. You can choose from two starting areas, and this applies to both factions. We will tell you how to reach the “Borean Tundra” or the “Howling Fjord” as a Horde or Alliance player.

Is there a starting quest for Northrend? No. Just travel to your chosen starting area (as described below). You will then receive your first missions at the respective camp in Northrend and can start directly from there.
How to get to Northrend as a Horde player
Two starting areas are available with different quests. In the Borean Tundra, you will experience the first part of the Nexus War with the blue dragonflight, as well as conflicts with strange robotic gnomes and Nerubians. In the Howling Fjord, the Forsaken are trying to reclaim land from the Vrykul.
How to get to the Borean Tundra as Horde
The path to the Borean Tundra is seen by many Horde players as the “standard route.” This is mainly because the connection to the Tundra takes place directly through the capital of the Horde, Orgrimmar.
If you want to start your journey in the Borean Tundra, you need to ascend the zeppelin tower southwest of Orgrimmar and wait for the zeppelin there. If you start your journey here, you will arrive directly in the Borean Tundra at the orc outpost “Warsong Hold”.
How to get to the Howling Fjord as Horde
To reach the Howling Fjord as a Horde player, you must first travel to Undercity. Leave the city and head north to the zeppelin tower. Ascend the tower and wait for the zeppelin on the western side of the tower. This zeppelin will take you directly to the Howling Fjord to the first outpost of the Forsaken, the “Harbor of Retribution.”

How to get to Northrend as an Alliance player
Just like the Horde, there are two starting areas to choose from. In the Borean Tundra, the focus at the start is on attacks from the Nerubians, but the Naga are also involved. In the Howling Fjord, however, you will deal with Vrykul and their “ascendance” into undeath.
How to reach the Borean Tundra as Alliance
Similar to the Horde, many Alliance players see the start in the Borean Tundra as the “standard route” to kick off in Northrend. If you want to start your journey in the Borean Tundra, you need to visit the harbor of Stormwind. Look for the dock in the northeast, as that is where the correct ship will be.
If you travel to the Borean Tundra this way, the ship will drop you off directly at the outpost “Valiance Keep,” from where you will receive quests immediately.
How to reach the Howling Fjord as Alliance
To advance into the Howling Fjord as an Alliance warrior, you need to choose a somewhat less intuitive route. Travel to the Wetlands (north of Ironforge) and visit the harbor of Menethil.
A new ship docks here at the northernmost pier every few minutes and takes all interested parties directly to Northrend. You will then land in “Valgarde” and can start your journey to level 80 from there.
Does it matter where you start? Basically yes. Blizzard originally introduced two starting areas to prevent too many players from crowding in the same area. While this is not necessarily a problem with today’s technology, you still have a bit of choice. You can choose the start in Northrend based on your personal preferences.
