There is stress again about a new “deal” in WoW Classic. The bonus editions of WotLK Classic are more expensive than full-price titles.
Basically, it was to be expected, but it hits the fans of classic World of Warcraft like a slap in the face again. Coinciding with the pre-patch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic, there are also new bundles in the World of Warcraft shop that you can purchase to enhance your gaming experience – at decent prices. These upgrades cost between 50 € and 80 €.
What are those packages? At the launch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic, players can choose to purchase 2 additional packages:
- Northrend Heroic Upgrade for 50 €
- Northrend Epic Upgrade for 80 €
Both packages come with different contents.
This is included in the Northrend Heroic Upgrade: The cheaper bundle for 50 € contains the following contents:
- A character boost to level 70 (does not apply to Death Knights), including:
- expert riding
- race-specific epic mount
- race-specific rare flying mount
- weapon skills up to level 70
- all flight paths in Azeroth and the Outland unlocked
- a set of unusual (green) gear for level 70
- four bags with 14 slots each
- some gold
- The penguin pet Pebbles
- Toy “Lucky Fishing Poles” that allows you to summon a Tuskarr as a fishing partner
This is included in the Northrend Epic Upgrade: The Epic Upgrade is priced at a proud 80 €. It includes:
- All contents of the Heroic Upgrade
- Flying mount “Walknochengleiter of the Kal’uak”
- Flying mount “Küstengleiter of the Tuskarr” for retail WoW (Shadowlands / Dragonflight)
- 30 days of game time for World of Warcraft (Classic and Retail)
Community reacts angrily: As expected, the community around WoW Classic reacts rather angrily and displeased. There still seems to be dissatisfaction about shop offers happening in this form in WotLK Classic at all. At the same time, many find the prices to be outrageous considering that WotLK is now a very old game and is essentially included for free in the subscription. To ask for more than the full price of a new title for a package, many consider a blatant scam. Some comments on this:
- “The same price as for retail add-ons …
… Just without a game? WoW.” - “Get yourself more pixels and the ability to skip content before your journey that you already paid for 14 years ago. For 80 €.”
- “Excuse me, could you please say that in “Diablo Immortal” language? How much value do I get exactly with this deal?”
However, it must also be said that just the character boost usually costs almost 50 € and therefore you “save” with the packages if you are interested in digital goodies such as pets, mounts, etc. and intend to use a boost, which makes them attractive offers – at least compared to the conventional price. This is also noted by some comments, which basically say: You don’t have to buy it if you don’t want to.
