Tips for leveling quickly in WoW WotLK Classic we show you here. On the new continent of Northrend, you can level up to level 80.
What are these tips? We have put together some tips that will help you during the release of WotLK Classic and beyond when playing secondary characters.
In doing so, we will reveal tricks that allow you to level faster and provide you with hints on what to keep in mind if you want to accomplish even more on your way to the new max level. You will also find here the advantages of different leveling methods.
Note that the most efficient leveling method for most players usually consists of a combination of all our tips. Switch between activities and combine them for maximum yield.
Note: If your server is too full, leveling may take longer because too many people want to complete the same quests. Blizzard offers free server transfers at release and for 25 € you can also purchase transfers to get to less populated realms.
1. Switch areas late
In Northrend, different leveling areas are available to you, but you can only quest there at a higher level. However, it is worth not switching as soon as you can, but at least finishing the quest hub in the old area you are currently in.
If you are one or two levels above the level intended for the area, you can defeat enemies significantly faster. Quests become easier for you and you can even complete group quests easily alone.
Even if the quests may grant slightly less experience points, you will make up for it through the higher speed. With your lead, the next area you want to switch to will also feel easier, and you won’t struggle too long against stronger enemies.
Certain addons also help you with leveling in WotLK Classic. Questing is best for leveling when:
- you enjoy being alone or in small groups
- you want to see the world or catch rare mobs
- you want to collect materials while leveling and maximize professions directly to level 80
Tip: If you want to make some gold while leveling, a short grinding session can also be worthwhile. This means you repeatedly kill enemies that drop certain items. Check your auction house for items that can currently earn gold.
While leveling, you can also admire the first in-game cinematic that WoW ever had:
2. Play dungeons with groups
Throughout Northrend, you will find dungeons that provide you with concentrated loot and experience points. With dull dungeon grinds, you can level up the fastest, but only if you have a well-coordinated group.
For dungeons, you usually need a group of 5 players that you need to form first. This can be well combined with regular questing: use the LFG tool, which replaces the dungeon finder, to look for a group while leveling.
You still need to travel to the dungeon, but you will receive a huge chunk of experience there. Additionally, the loot from the dungeon significantly improves your equipment. This makes future runs and quests much easier for you.
Dungeons are best for leveling when:
- you have a fixed group of 5 players that you can coordinate with
- you have quests for dungeons that you want to complete
- you need equipment and want to continuously improve
3. Buy large bags
What may sound trivial can help you immensely while leveling: larger bags ensure that you have to visit the vendor less often or are generally not overloaded as often. If a quest item no longer fits in your bags, you will have to sort first.
This only costs a few seconds, but if it happens frequently, the time can add up quickly. Sufficient bag space and a good overview are therefore important.
With WotLK, there are new bags with more spaces. You can often get these cheaply because tailors increase their skill with them. As a rule of thumb: take the smaller, current bags, as they generally have the best cost/benefit ratio.
4. Use elixirs, buff food, and more
If you are fresh out of Burning Crusade, you may still have double-warpers, crispy serpents, or spicy river crabs in your inventory, along with a few elixirs from the last raid. Healing and mana potions or even drums from leatherworkers can also make your journey significantly easier.
With level 80, however, you will already receive significantly better consumables and will not use the old ones anymore. So consume everything you have on your way to max level.
The buffs may seem weak, but with their duration and the combination of different effects, you can save considerable time, such as pulling one more mob and surviving or dealing more damage.
If you have some gold left, you can also scour the auction house to see if you can find some bargains. Often, players try to sell their stock at high prices towards the end of an expansion and at the start of a new one. So don’t spend too much gold on “old stuff”.
Consumables like spell threads, armor sets, or consumables like battle drums are also not worth hoarding. Use them when you can and make your leveling phase easier. Every buff helps, especially in dungeons.
Important: Buy glyphs! These significantly improve your character and have been available since the WotLK pre-patch. Some of the best glyphs, however, may only be learned by scribes now, so keep an eye on the auction house.
5. Set your hearthstone
This tip may seem obvious to many, but can save you valuable minutes. If you still have your hearthstone set in Shattrath, change it as soon as possible. There are two optimal uses:
- Dalaran as the new capital with portals to all cities for flexibility
- The inn of your current quest hub, to save yourself the return trip
The first option is especially useful for players who want to list all their items in the auction house and do not have a bank character. The second option is aimed at fans of power-leveling, who do not want to waste a second.
In any case: Use your hearthstone. Keeping it “just in case” usually results in wasting the cooldown and spending several minutes traveling on foot instead.
Bonus: Use heirlooms as soon as they are available
With WotLK, heirlooms were introduced in World of Warcraft at the time. These are account-bound items that level up with you as you progress. In their old version, they still increase the experience you earn from kills and quests.
The limit for heirlooms is level 70. Beyond that, their use is only limited. If you want to play a second character, however, they are the ideal replacement for the “Skyward Journeys” buff, which is now gone.
A detailed guide to heirlooms will be available soon here on MeinMMO.
