Patch 8.0 of World of Warcraft means the end of the artifact weapons – and that even before players complete the quest.
For the players of World of Warcraft, there is now a small piece of bad news. Once Patch 8.0 is applied, all abilities and properties of the artifact weapons will be disabled and can no longer be used. This happens not only at the end of a quest line but automatically with the activation of the latest patch.
Quest line only as story explanation: Along with Patch 8.0, the quest will also be unlocked where players sacrifice their artifact weapon to cleanse the Sword of Sargeras in the wound in Silithus. The contamination of the planet is intended to be stopped this way. However, the cleansing drains the artifact weapons of their energy and makes them unstable. They “bleed” out their artifact power, causing the properties of the weapon to be disabled. This is at least the lore explanation for why our weapons lose power.
Fairness as justification: Blizzard has decided to automatically disable the weapon properties to avoid unfair moments. Otherwise, some players would simply wait for the completion of the quest to continue benefiting from their full strength. Those who did not inform themselves in advance about the quest line would then be at a significant disadvantage compared to their peers. This scenario is avoided so that everyone is on the same level.
An exact release date for Patch 8.0 is not yet available. Since Battle for Azeroth, however, is set to release on August 14, it won’t be long now. Most players anticipate the release of the pre-patch four weeks before the add-on release – around mid-July.
What do you think about the automatic deactivation of your artifact weapon traits? A smart decision?
