The race for the “World First” in the Sanctum of Domination, the new raid in World of Warcraft begins today on July 13, 2021. America has a slight head start again.
Every few months, World of Warcraft attracts a large amount of viewers across various streams. The “World First” race is on, where the best guilds in the world attempt to defeat the current final boss “Sylvanas Windrunner” in the Sanctum of Domination. Although there is no actual reward from Blizzard – there’s plenty of glory and viewers on streams on YouTube and Twitch cheering along.
What’s it about? In the “World First Race”, the top professional guilds in World of Warcraft try to be the first to complete the latest raid on the highest difficulty “Mythic”. The race usually lasts several days or even weeks, depending on how tough the bosses end up being. Sometimes these races are decided after just one or two days, but occasionally the World First race can extend over weeks.
For the American guilds, the race starts now, on July 13, 2021. They have a few hours lead over the Europeans.
In the Sanctum of Domination, there are a total of 10 bosses with Sylvanas as the final boss. Whoever takes her down first wins the World First race.

Where can you follow the World First race? That depends entirely on which guild you want to watch. Some of the “hot favorites” are as follows:
- Limit: The US guild “Complexity Limit” has won the last two World First races and is therefore the favorite. They stream their progress, so you can watch it live on the Twitch page of Limit.
- Echo: The EU guild Echo has mostly come from former members of Method and is probably the biggest competitor to Limit. You can follow the Echo stream here on Twitch.

Why do the Americans have a lead? This is due to the different timings of maintenance. In America, maintenance takes place on Tuesday, while in Europe, a new “WoW week” only starts on Wednesday morning.
Isn’t that totally unfair? This is often a hotly debated topic. While many argue for a simultaneous launch, the European guilds also have a few small advantages when they start later. They can benefit from the experience of the American guilds. Often, fights in the first days also have bugs and issues that make them unmanageable.
By the time European players catch up, Blizzard has often implemented several hotfixes. This allows European players to catch up faster and start a fight that has already drained the American players of hours of time and nerves due to its bugs.
Of course, this isn’t ideally resolved, but the current situation is generally accepted among players.
