In a few hours, World of Warcraft Dragonflight begins, marking the ninth expansion of Blizzard’s MMORPG. But how do you even start in the new WoW addon? Is there a prerequisite quest? Where do you go to the Dragon Isles?

Prerequisite Quest for Dragonflight – What You Need to Do
Is there a prerequisite quest? Yes, there is – and you can already complete it. The call from Wrathion (Alliance) and Sabellian (Horde) is already part of the “Dragonflight” campaign. If you played the pre-event for Dragonflight, you have already fulfilled this quest.
If not, simply take your character to Stormwind (Alliance) or Orgrimmar (Horde) and the quest should start automatically. This whole process takes less than 5 minutes; you just need to speak to the dragons once, then recruit your explorers for the expedition, and finally arrive at the harbor where Khadgar appears. It is likely that watching the cutscenes will take longer than the actual questing.
You can easily check if you have done everything in your quest log. Under the entry “The Dragon Scale Expedition,” you should find the following text:
“The campaign will continue when Dragonflight is released.”
If you see that in your quest log – wonderful! You are ready for the launch to the Dragon Isles.
Travel to the Dragon Isles – Here’s How to Start
How do you get to the Dragon Isles? Unlike Shadowlands, this time there is no portal that directly transports you to the Dragon Isles; you must travel traditionally by ship or zeppelin.
For the first time, there will be a quest that you will accompany during the expedition. It will happen quite naturally – you accept a quest and just follow it.
If you want to travel to the Dragon Isles again later and do not want to use a portal, you can do it like this:
- Alliance: The ship at the southernmost dock at the harbor of Stormwind shuttles between the Dragon Isles and Stormwind.
- Horde: The eastern zeppelin tower in front of the gates of Orgrimmar is your destination. The zeppelin arrives every few minutes, an NPC gives you the exact time.
Later, you will also unlock a portal that you can use – as in all previous expansions – from the portal rooms in Stormwind or Orgrimmar.
