Is the war in the new addon of World of Warcraft just the beginning of an even greater threat?
With Battle for Azeroth, all signs point to war in World of Warcraft. The Alliance and Horde are at each other’s throats. The conflict rages not only on the new continents of Zandalar and Kul Tiras, but also in Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms. But is this really the main theme of the expansion? Or is there another conflict overshadowed by the war?
At BlizzCon, it was already announced that Queen Azshara will also appear as a boss during the expansion. Since the Naga have a clear connection to the Old Gods (they transformed the elves into Naga), it seems that the Old God N’Zoth is pulling the strings here.
This is also confirmed by the preview of the novel “Before the Storm”, which has now been pushed back by a month to June 12, 2018. Along with this, the description has been changed to read as follows:
“In Before the Storm, Anduin Wrynn, King of Stormwind, and Sylvanas Windrunner, Warchief of the Horde, have just come into new power that they are not yet prepared for. While the Alliance and Horde struggle to recover from the devastating war against the demonic Burning Legion, a terrible discovery puts both leaders to the test and threatens to rekindle the enmity between the two factions.”
Old Gods as Instigators of War?
What exactly this “terrible discovery” will be is still unclear. Azerite seems to be off the table, as players are already introduced to it in Patch 7.3.5. This increases the likelihood that it relates to the actions of the Old Gods.
The prevailing theory is that the “Battle for Azeroth” only includes the conflict between the Horde and Alliance in the early content (Patch 8.0 and 8.1). After that, everything will revolve around the deeper threat wanting to take over the planet Azeroth.
