Warlocks in World of Warcraft can be very lazy. One traveled across all of Kalimdor – but only using his own portals. It took a long time. A very long time.
In World of Warcraft, various players have achieved quite strange achievements or posed (and answered) questions that are not easy to come by. Can you level a Pandaren to level 60 while remaining neutral? Can you cover the entire continent with festival meals? Now a warlock wanted to answer another question:
How many warlock portals does it take to traverse the entire continent of Kalimdor?
What happened? The void elf warlock “Cisbian,” known on the WoW subreddit as “circesalami,” apparently had a question that urgently needed an answer. How often would one need to use “Demonic Gateway” from the warlock to get from the northernmost tip of Kalimdor to the southernmost edge of the continent?
In many raid encounters in World of Warcraft, “Demonic Gateway” is a very important spell. It creates two demonic portals through which players can bridge a distance of up to 40 meters in a single second. This is faster than most movement abilities and helps with many boss mechanics to avoid deadly areas. As a pure method of travel, the Demonic Gateway is actually not suitable, as its usage has a cooldown of 90 seconds.
What was the result? In the end, circesalami had a journey of over 7 hours behind him. This is primarily because using the portal is subject to a cooldown. Although he took all the bonuses, such as a PvP talent for increased portal range and a legendary item from Legion to use two portals back-to-back – the journey still took a long time. It took a whopping 570 portals from the Bloodmyst Isles to the south of Uldum.
Did everything go smoothly? No, from time to time circesalami had to “cheat” a little and reposition himself at least on the Z-axis – that is, the height. This is because the portal reacts strangely in some places and you often get stuck in objects. Especially in Thousand Needles, circesalami apparently had issues, as the portals interact oddly with water and the exact positioning is not so easy.
Have you completed a similar absurd challenge in World of Warcraft? What do you think? An interesting accomplishment or just a huge waste of time?
