Has World of Warcraft gone too far this time? 80 € for a mount is an expensive affair – or does the community think it’s good?
In World of Warcraft, in the last days, the 20th anniversary of the game is being celebrated, but a discussion casts a shadow over much of it. Because the developers have released a new mount in the shop that costs a whopping 78 euros – the Gilded Trader Brutosaurus
. This is not only the most expensive (directly purchasable) mount in the game so far but also a way to always have an auction house and a mailbox.
There are discussions everywhere about whether the price is reasonable and good or a rip-off and a disgrace. We would like to hear your view on this.
What is against the price? The biggest argument has not fundamentally changed for years. WoW is a game that requires full price for an expansion every few years and also needs a subscription. Many find it inappropriate to be additionally asked to pay in such a game.
Moreover, the price of 78 € is a new dimension. Previous mounts cost between 10 € and 25 € – that now more than three times is demanded here is incomprehensible to some.
What speaks for the price? A mount with similar features – especially an auctioneer – was already available in the game during “Battle for Azeroth”. Back then, you had to buy the mount for a large amount of gold. By now, this original mount is only available in the black market auction house, costing “Goldcap” each time – that is, 9,999,999 gold pieces.
Since gold can be assigned a direct value in euros due to the WoW token, buyers of the original mount would likely feel greatly cheated if the new Brutosaurus were offered for only 20 €. After all, the old Brutosaurus would currently cost 30 WoW tokens based on the current WoW token price – nearly 390 €.
From this perspective, 78 € for the Brutosaurus is a pretty good deal, with apparently very many players jumping on it, as the capital cities of the game were already filled with Brutosauruses within a few minutes.
