The US WoW guilds have lost their lead in the “World First” race for Ny’alotha. The European guild Method has caught up and other guilds are on the verge of doing so.
For almost 3 days, a World of Warcraft “World First” race has been underway, where professional guilds from around the world are trying to defeat the final boss N’Zoth first. This is the twelfth and thus last enemy of the final raid of Battle for Azeroth “Ny’alotha, the Awakened City”.
As usual, the US guilds had an advantage of nearly half a day due to different regional maintenance times, which brought Limit (now “Complexity Limit”) to the top of the race – with a lead of 7 bosses. However, this lead is now spent.
Therefore, the lead is not just an advantage: The fact that US guilds can start earlier than Europeans is a major criticism that has existed for years in the World First race in WoW.
While the pure time advantage is certainly a clear benefit, there are also some mitigating factors. The US guilds often act as “beta testers” for the bosses and encounter bugs and other problems. Blizzard swiftly pushes hotfixes, allowing EU guilds to have a mostly smooth fight.
In addition, EU guilds can copy the strategies of US guilds and thus catch up faster until they are on equal footing.

This is the current status: As of now (January 31, 1:45 PM), Limit and Method are tied. Since Limit defeated the 9th boss earlier, they are technically still in the lead, but that could change soon.
Currently, only Limit and Method have reached the 10th boss Il’gynoth, while the guild Pieces is still working on Drestagath, thus being at 8/12.

Boss No. 10 proves to be the first major hurdle
What is the current problem? Il’gynoth is the first boss fight in Ny’alotha that has lasted more than 24 hours, making it the first real major hurdle.
In the boss fight, various organs of the boss need to be killed while also adhering to a tight time limit.
The current best attempt by Limit is at 20%. It looks like Il’gynoth could fall later today, thereby clearing the way to the two final enemies: the tank of N’Zoth and N’Zoth himself.
How many are watching the race? Although the “World First” kill of N’Zoth is probably still a few days away, the race is already captivating many viewers. On the Method stream, even during lunchtime, 50,000 viewers are already watching live and experiencing how various professional guilds attempt the currently hardest bosses in World of Warcraft.
It remains exciting. Once again, Method and Complexity Limit are in a head-to-head race and currently both have very good chances of winning.
