The Zandalari trolls in World of Warcraft are finally playable. The quest has a few dark surprises…
Since Patch 8.1.5, players of World of Warcraft can finally unlock new allied races. The questline to unlock the Zandalari trolls is relatively quick. We will reveal to you what happens there and what impact the quest has on the entire Horde.
Update: This article was originally published in 2019. We have updated it in July 2024 with the latest information regarding Patch 11.0.

Requirements for the quest: Most players should already meet the requirements to start the quest. You need:
- a character (Horde) at level 40
There used to be many other requirements. These have been removed with “Dragonflight”.
The quest takes place right after the events of the Battle of Dazar’alor. King Rastakhan was slain by the Alliance forces. The dark pact with the Loa of death, Bwonsamdi, has passed to the troll princess, Talanji. She is supposed to present herself as the new ruler to her people and follow in her father’s footsteps. However, she faces several problems. The player must help her.

Uprising among the trolls: To be crowned, Talanji must undergo several trials. During this, she passes through many areas of the city and is insulted repeatedly. Many trolls reject her and her pact with Bwonsamdi. They would never want to serve the Loa of death, who represents destruction and annihilation. Bwonsamdi should not be elevated above other Loa.
However, it soon becomes apparent that these uprisings are apparently orchestrated and intentionally provoked. The players must find out who is behind it before the rituals for the coronation ceremony can continue.
The colleagues at wowhead have showcased the entire quest in a video:
The Trials of the Loa: Subsequently, Talanji must pass several trials of different Loa. These are basically small mini-games where players assist. For example, Krag’wa transforms you into a fly, and you must avoid hungry frogs. In the trial of Pa’ku, Talanji has to climb a staircase while being hindered by powerful storms.
You can find everything about the racial abilities of the Zandalari here.
Bwonsamdi wants a head: In the final trial, Talanji is supposed to kill someone. Bwonsamdi demands the head of Sylvanas Windrunner. However, Talanji refuses and insists that it would be dishonorable. While Bwonsamdi appears briefly disappointed, he still considers the trial passed and allows Talanji to take the crown.
The questline ends with Talanji calling Sylvanas to discuss the alliance. Sylvanas appears a bit arrogant but agrees to a pact as “equals”. From that point on, the empire of Zandalar is an official ally of the Horde.
Upon returning to Orgrimmar, players receive the mount “Zandalari Direhorn” and can create Zandalari trolls from then on.
The questline has been playable since the release of Patch 8.1.5.
