The Dark Rangers are the highlight of Patch 9.2.5 in World of Warcraft. We will tell you how to unlock them.
With Patch 9.2.5, World of Warcraft has unexpectedly introduced a little gem into the game. For three of the elf races, players can unlock new cosmetic options. This gives them the opportunity to visually take on the appearance of the “Dark Rangers.” These are undead elf hunters whose souls were either forced back into their bodies by the Scourge or later by Sylvanas.
However, the customizations are not only for hunters, but can be used by all classes – with the exception of death knights and demon hunters.
Which races can receive the customizations? The customizations are available for all elves who had rangers in the recent or distant past. These are:
- Night Elves
- Blood Elves
- Void Elves
The achievement is account-wide. You do not have to complete the quest with an elf, but can use any other character for it and then utilize the unlocks on other characters.
Guide: How to unlock the customizations for the Dark Rangers
The requirements: To make the unlock, you first need a character at level 60 who has fully completed the Covenant campaign, meaning they have experienced the finale in Zereth Mortis and the condemnation of Sylvanas.
First of all: Almost all steps of the quest chain are full of dialogue options, both in spoken word and in written text. Anyone interested in the story should not run away immediately, but rather listen a little bit. However, this is not necessary for the unlock.
The start: Afterward, you can travel to Oribos and visit Genn Greymane. On the map, it should already indicate that he has a new quest called “Eyes of the Wolf.” The quest requires you to travel to Tirisfal to accompany Calia Menethil.
Horde players, on the other hand, start with Calia Menethil, who is in the same room.
Important: Do not manually travel to Tirisfal, but speak with the respective NPCs. They will take you directly to Tirisfal.
After that, most of it is self-explanatory.
- Talk to Calia Menethil in the ruins of Brill to hand in “Eyes of the Wolf” and accept “Gather the Forsaken”.
- Talk in Brill with the Dark Ranger Velonara, Lilian Voss, and Apothecary Master Faranell. For Velonara, you need to complete the quest “This Land Belongs to Us” and kill 8 infected undead. Then return to Calia.
- Accept the quest “The Plague Gatherer” and then speak with Lilian Voss; listen to the dialogue. Afterwards, talk to Calia and accompany her south to the border of the plague.
- Accept the quest “Path of Faith” and talk to Calia. Stay in her golden dome while protecting her. Once she gives you the signal, fill the vial and protect her on the way back as well.
- Accept the quest “Hearing the Allies” and then travel to Maldraxxus in the Shadowlands.
- Talk to Countess Sin’dane and then accept the quest “House of Plagues.” Fly a bit south to meet the Plague Inventor Marileth there.
- Accept the two quests “Essence of the Plague” and “Feed the Devourer.” Just kill slimes and Rocs in the area while sequentially using the 3 marked plague cauldrons. Travel further south to hand in the two quests.
- In “Embodiment,” you must now defeat a somewhat stronger enemy. With poor equipment, this could become a problem, but most should have no difficulties. Avoid the ground effects that waft across the battlefield from the sides.
- Accept the quest “Return to Brill.” Now use the hearthstone that Lilian Voss gave you. It takes you directly back to the quest’s destination in Tirisfal. Talk to Apothecary Master Faranell.
- Accept “Help from Lordaeron” and then mount the back of the Shadow Bat. Use the bat’s two abilities to cleanse the plague. You can spam the 1st ability on the ground, and the 2nd ability is used on the marked plague barrels.
- Once you reach 100%, the plague bat will attack the amalgam. Use the remaining abilities (3 to 5) to destroy the creature.
- Turn in the quest at the landing point and accept “The Comfortless Council.” Wait for the dialogue and then turn the quest back in.
- Talk to the Dark Ranger Velnora to complete “The Path of the Dark Rangers.” You don’t have to do anything for the quest and can directly accept “Report for Greymane” from Calia. Return to Oribos and you are done!
After that, you will receive the achievement “Return to Lordaeron.” From then on, you can use the new customizations for your Night Elves, Blood Elves, and Void Elves. This can be done either at the Barber or already during character creation of a new character. At the same time, you will also receive the title “[Player Name] of Lordaeron,” which will likely please some role-playing fans.
Have you already unlocked this cosmetic customization?
