A bug causes some players in World of Warcraft to have items with item level 415. We reveal what went wrong.
Blizzard apparently had different expectations. A bug in World of Warcraft caused numerous players to receive items ranging from item level 380 to 415 this week – and that without doing anything.
What happened? Anyone who completed a “Mythic+” dungeon in “Legion” last week could open a reward chest on American servers yesterday. However, the reward inside was based on the last “Mythic+” dungeon completed in Legion! So, if someone completed a “Mythic +15” dungeon, they received a reward as if they had completed such a dungeon in Battle for Azeroth.
What is the consequence? As a result, many players on the US servers have now received items with item levels between 360 and 415. This includes weapons, which leads to a massive boost in performance. Players received rewards that they normally could not earn.
Fans demand rollback: Many players are currently demanding that Blizzard should implement a “rollback”, meaning the weapons and equipment should be removed retroactively. It would be completely unfair if players now carried weapons with item level 400+. The race for first kills and also the PvP of Battle for Azeroth would be ruined for weeks or months. Blizzard reacts quickly: The developers reacted promptly to the bug and have already deactivated the chest after just a few hours. So, those who weren’t fast enough won’t receive this reward anymore. Meanwhile, more and more players are receiving a letter stating that they accidentally received incorrect loot. The loot will be taken away from these players.
For Europe, this bug comes too late. Here, the faulty reward chest has already been deactivated.
