Raiding in World of Warcraft is an expensive affair – at least at the world rank level. The pros have revealed how many millions of gold they have spent.
The race for the “World First Kill” of the Jailer in the Sepulcher of the First Ones has been underway for a while. However, many of the pro guilds are now taking the time to farm gold properly again – for the next race and to pay off their debts. Because such a race costs millions of gold coins – in some cases even billions. We reveal what each guild has paid.
How much gold have the guilds spent? There are significant differences among them. Some of the most well-known – and successful – guilds have reported the following gold amounts they spent during the race in the Sepulcher of the First Ones:
- Liquid: 723 million gold
- SK Pieces: 680 million gold
- Method: 480 million gold
- BigDumbGaming (BDGG): 294 million gold
- JiTianHong: 1100 million gold
Interestingly, many guilds have taken out gold debts and borrowed gold.
How much money would that be in real currency? The colleagues from wowhead have taken these gold values and converted them into real money. This can be done at least roughly, as there is a “WoW Token” in World of Warcraft, which allows players to exchange real money for gold or gold for game time. However, the prices for this WoW Token fluctuate continuously and there are significant differences between regions (EU, US, Asia). For example, gold is worth significantly less in the Asian region. Converted to euros at the respective gold rate for the region, this would amount for the pro guilds:
- Liquid: €84,700
- SK Pieces: €52,000
- Method: €37,000
- BDGG: €34,000
- JiTianHong: €29,000
What is the money actually spent on? Gold serves several purposes in the World First race. After all, there are many things that can be paid for with gold:
- PvP boosts to get strong items from the weekly reward chest
- “Bind on Equip” items from the auction house
- Buff food, potions, elixirs, weapon oils, runes (“consumables”)
- Repair costs
How do the guilds earn back the gold? Mainly through sell runs. After the Jailer has been defeated, most pro guilds sell their skills for a high amount of gold. Anyone who wants to be taken completely through the Sepulcher of the First Ones on heroic difficulty to collect achievements and loot pays a large amount of gold for it. Although the public advertising of such services across multiple realms has been banned, offering them in principle has not.
The wealth saved up will also likely be needed in the next expansion – because then the guilds will probably spend millions of gold again to be perfectly prepared for the next raid.
What do you think of such gold values? Absolutely insane what the guilds are managing? Should this play a role in the World First race? Is this just part of the WoW economy?
