Thanks to the demon invasions, twinks in World of Warcraft can literally level up by themselves.
Update: Blizzard has now reduced the experience points received from the event. Therefore, the information below is no longer current.
Up to 3 Level-Ups per Demon Invasion
For several days now, the Age of the Legion has begun in World of Warcraft. Although the actual expansion is still a few days away, the demon invasions occur every 4 hours. Three days ago (on August 12), a new hotfix was applied to the invasions, which changed some details about the invasions.
The most exciting change is probably for everyone who does not want to painstakingly level their twinks. Each of the 4 phases of a demon invasion is now rewarded with a large chunk of experience points.
What’s special about it: The character does not even need to actively participate in defending against the invasion! As long as one stays in the corresponding area, a large amount of experience points is credited for completing each phase. In combination with appropriate heirloom gear, twinks at low levels (between 10 and 30) receive approximately one level per phase of the invasion – the 4th phase, by the way, brings particularly many XP.
At higher player levels, the events give (proportionally) less experience points, so only 1-2 level-ups occur (even less in the 90-100 range). However, the fact that you can also gain XP while doing something completely different makes visiting the invasions worthwhile. One can only wonder if this article was written while a shaman twink is finally being leveled in the background…
Tip: Those who can afford it should use their character just before completing the first invasion phase to throw in an “Elixir of the Flashthinker“, which increases the gained experience points by 300%. Then, with a single invasion, even up to 10 level-ups are possible.
A nice side effect for newcomers: The items from the reward chests are also quite strong at low levels. Those who do not need them can even sell them for 10-30 gold each – a decent sum for fresh characters.
Mein-MMO says: Normally, we are always a bit critical when players can exploit game mechanics where “other players do the work” while one just stands by AFK. However, the invasions are designed so that the other participants do not suffer any disadvantages. The enemies gain more health points depending on the number of characters fighting them. So, anyone who just “stands by and grabs XP” does not harm the rest of the player base – but also does not contribute to a faster completion of the invasion.
