The new costs for transmutation are significantly lowered. The developers of World of Warcraft are backtracking.
The Pre-Patch 12.0 of World of Warcraft already brought many good and important changes that come with the upcoming expansion Midnight. However, the new transmog system is causing dissatisfaction.
Not everyone understands the system right away, and some have strong criticism – because saving individual sets is more expensive than before. This was actually done because after saving sets, players can switch between them for free, but Blizzard is still backtracking and drastically reducing the costs.
What is the problem with the new transmog system? Basically, the new transmog system is praised in many areas. The ability to switch between multiple sets for free after setting them up is well received. However, saving a set is nearly twice as expensive as before. Depending on the equipment, the price ranges between 1,500 and 3,000 gold. Too much, as some feel.
This is particularly expensive for people who frequently change small details. They have to either save a separate slot for each small change or pay gold each time again.
Transmog prices drop by 50%, as soon as possible
What is Blizzard changing? The developers have announced that the transmog costs will be drastically reduced. Saving a set should be a whopping 50% cheaper in the future. This brings the costs per set back to the level before Patch 12.0, although all new functionalities will remain.
For a full set of transmutation, you will then pay only between 750 and 1,500 gold.
It was also announced that all characters will receive a free transmutation and this will not be just at the release of the next patch (12.0.1), but “as soon as possible”.
When is this going live? It seems that one won’t have to wait long. The reduction of costs is supposed to take place “within the next day”, therefore sometime today on 23.01.2026. However, the free transmutation per character might take a little longer and will probably appear in a later hotfix.
With this, Blizzard addresses one of the major “pain points” of Patch 12.0 and ensures that the pre-patch regains some lost ground. Because even though many are having fun right now, there are a few serious criticisms – for example, about the devourer demon hunter, which is not well received at all.
