A new mount in World of Warcraft comes after a long wait – but you have to play for it. A lot. And also old content.
New mounts in World of Warcraft are always a reason for joy for collectors. However, some tasks seem almost gigantic. One of them, introduced with Patch 11.0.7, could keep new players busy for weeks – and that in old content. Veterans might find it somewhat easier if they have played during the time of Battle for Azeroth.
Currently, WoW is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the game:
What kind of achievement is this? The achievement is named “A Farewell to Arms” and is a major meta-achievement that requires you to have earned 18 other achievements, most of which are also meta-achievements. In other words: a really big task. The achievements all take place in the “Battle for Azeroth” expansion – thus in content that is already quite outdated.
What reward is there? The reward is “Jani’s Trashpile”, so “Jani’s garbage heap”. Jani is one of the smaller Loa that you could encounter throughout Battle for Azeroth. Jani appears in some quests, and almost always you have to rob or punish someone as a little dino. The mount looks exactly like Jani.

What needs to be done? The meta-achievement “A Farewell to Arms” is long – really, really long. You will need to complete almost all content from Battle for Azeroth and frequently also complete achievements that aren’t just “on the way” but that you have to pursue explicitly. The meta-achievements include:
- Uldir: Defeat all bosses in Uldir on normal or higher.
- Battle of Dazar Alor: Defeat all bosses in the Battle of Dazar Alor on normal or higher.
- Crucible of Storms: Defeat all bosses in the Crucible of Storms on normal or higher.
- The Eternal Palace: Defeat all bosses in the Eternal Palace on normal or higher.
- Ny’alotha, the Waking City: Defeat all bosses in Ny’alotha, the Waking City, on normal or higher.
- I’m On Island Time: A massive meta-achievement where you must earn all rare enemies, all treasures, and all zone-specific achievements from the 6 initial areas of Battle for Azeroth, in addition to 100 world quests there.
- War Stories: Complete all story campaign quests in Battle for Azeroth (Horde and Alliance).
- Azerothian Diplomat: Become Respectful with all 6 reputation factions in Battle for Azeroth.
- Expedition Leader: Complete all achievements of the Island Expeditions (excluding the PvP achievement).
- Maximum Effort: Complete all achievements of the Warfronts from Battle for Azeroth, in addition to numerous missions at your ship’s mission table.
- Undersea Usurper: Complete nearly all achievements in Naz’jatar.
- Mecha-Done: Complete nearly all achievements in Mechagon.
- Through the Depths of Visions: Complete nearly all achievements of the Horrific Visions.
- Full Heart, Can’t Lose: Complete nearly all achievements for the Heart of Azeroth.
- Dressed to Kill: Battle for Azeroth: Collect at least 4 sets (PvP or PvE) from Battle for Azeroth.
- To All the Squirrels I Set Sail to See: Use /love on all pets from Battle for Azeroth.
Why is Blizzard doing this? Blizzard has already begun to implement such achievements for past expansions a while ago – there was a similar achievement in Shadowlands and Dragonflight also received a similar achievement towards the end of the expansions. It can be expected that Blizzard will gradually continue to implement this for all expansions until there is such a comprehensive achievement for each one, which will then be rewarded with a special mount.
For many, this could be a new reason to play the old content again and earn a nice mount – and also get some transmog items from the raids or island expeditions. Since a large part of the achievements is also credited retroactively or is already completed, veterans have a clearly simpler task ahead of them.
“Old content” seems to be the topic anyway, because the new Siren’s Island is actually from Battle for Azeroth.
