A buff food in World of Warcraft caused the wrath of many players. Because a PvP fan had properly trolled his teammates.
In the battlegrounds of World of Warcraft, it has become a tradition for someone to try to troll their teammates. For a long time, it was “normal” for someone to lure their allies into typing “/afk” to get kicked from the battleground. Most people know this by now.
However, trolls always find new ways to tease, annoy, or actively block their teammates, as a recent post on Reddit showed.
What happened? In a game of Alterac Valley, a player set up a large “Feast of the Fishes.” Feasts are actually large meals that all surrounding allies can click on to receive a buff. Normally, there is a bonus to certain attributes, such as stamina, intelligence, or strength.
However, there are also some feasts that only carry small fun effects, like shrinking or growing the character. And then there is the “Feast of the Fishes” that was presented to the players.
What kind of feast is this? The Feast of the Fishes looks visually like many other feasts but has a special effect. After eating, “one becomes full and gains all the attributes of a fish.” What this means for the players is not clear to most.
They actually turn into fish and helplessly flop around on land like a fish while rapidly losing health and dying. Because even in WoW, fish primarily survive in water.

In addition to some rather amused questions about why “one is now a Magikarp,” there were, of course, many unfriendly complaints.
The buff could have been clicked away: In principle, the players could have noticed the trolling and simply clicked away the buff to cancel it. Since most did not associate the fish effect with a buff or the feast, this led to the death of a large part of the raid group and the ensuing outrage in the chat.
The consequence was likely that the respective player was reported very often by his colleagues – but it was probably worth it for him.
