In the Shadowlands of WoW there are not only great heroes but also seemingly insignificant characters. This dedicated grandma has also made it to the realm of the dead.
The Shadowlands in World of Warcraft are anything but a playground. After all, they are the realms of the dead, and hardly anyone wants to linger there willingly. However, an older lady from Stormwind seems undeterred by this. Because “Old Emma” has also made it to Oribos and is now searching for her sons.
Who is she? Old Emma is a character that many people might not even be aware of. For a long time, she could be seen wandering the streets of Stormwind, but only with the story from the book “Before the Storm” did she get her own narrative.
She was one of the first humans to respond to King Anduin’s request and wanted to experience a peaceful meeting with the Forsaken. Because her three sons Jem, Jack, and Jake were all killed by the Scourge and raised as zombies. They later lived as Forsaken in Undercity.
The meeting between Emma and her sons was successful, and the family overcame the chasm of undeath to understand one another again. Old Emma was so happy that she could hardly breathe, and there was even concern that she might die during the meeting.
However, the meeting did not end positively. Sylvanas saw nothing good in the encounter and ended it after a while by shooting all the Forsaken who had understood the humans. Jem, Jack, and Jake were executed by Dark Rangers; their great mother escaped – she also outlived the second death of her sons.
What does Emma say? Emma can only be found after the Torghast questline around Anduin has been completed. After that, however, she talks about how she “will not leave without her boys” and asks if anyone has seen them. After all, they must be around here somewhere.
However, it seems that Emma does not know that all souls have been sent directly to the Maw for some time now and are being transformed into cruel weapons or monstrosities there. Perhaps it is better if the good woman does not find out about this too quickly…
How did Emma get to the Shadowlands? How exactly Old Emma and Philia Fintallas made it to the Shadowlands, which is hardly suitable for “tourists,” is still not entirely clear. However, that she even arrived in Oribos is a clear sign that we will see much more from her and her three sons – if the latter have not yet been processed into something terrible by the Jailer.
Blizzard seems to be keen on telling small side stories in the Shadowlands. This is likely one that most players did not think would continue.
The Jailer certainly has to brace himself. Because dealing with angry grandmas is probably no joke in the Shadowlands either.
