In the endgame of WoW: Shadowlands, players dive into Torghast, the Tower of the Damned. But what exactly is it? We have all the information.
The endgame of World of Warcraft Shadowlands is said to consist mainly of two features. The first are the covenants players must join. The second feature is Torghast, the Tower of the Damned. We will reveal what Torghast actually is and why players should often spend time there.
What is Torghast? The Tower of the Damned is located in the middle of the endgame area “The Maw” and serves as both the center and an anchor point of this zone. It is home to the mysterious Jailer, who lends Sylvanas parts of his power. Here lie his strongest troops, as well as the most dangerous prisoners that have been drawn into the Maw. Furthermore, the tower is virtually endless – it doesn’t obey the normal laws of reality.
How many players is Torghast for? Torghast scales with the number of players in the group. 1 to 5 players are supported. So, if one wants, they can venture out alone. Those who prefer to take their friends along can climb the tower together. It shouldn’t matter whether you have a “proper” group consisting of a tank, healer, and 3 DPS or just go with damage dealers.
How does it work in the tower? The tower is an endless labyrinth with numerous levels. The higher you climb in the tower, the stronger the enemies become. But that’s not all. While the first levels of the tower are still relatively simple and one can quickly find the stairs to the next level, it becomes more difficult further up. Also, there are traps or puzzles that need to be solved, as well as keys that must be found. The higher you ascend, the more complex and difficult it becomes to reach the higher levels.
By the way, you can’t memorize the way from the “last visit”. The tower has a changing layout each time, so you have to explore it anew and encounter different challenges.
Powerful buffs in every run: However, your character also becomes stronger. In the tower, you collect more and more Anima, which can occasionally be spent for special rewards in the form of abilities.
These abilities can either help your character in the tower or be useful for the entire group. A few examples of these abilities were presented at BlizzCon:
- Simple buffs for the character
- 10% more health
- 5% more mastery
- Special effects
- Your attacks have a chance to curse the target and deal X shadow damage over 8 seconds.
- When you deal shadow damage, there is a chance to blind the target, reducing its hit chance by 75% for 12 seconds.
- Useful effects
- Your character has the ability to see which enemies carry Anima.
- Synergy effects
- Increases the duration of Soulshape (a movement ability) by 50%.
- Maw Rats explode upon their death, dealing X damage to all other enemies in the vicinity.
- If you walk through Maw Rats with Soulshape, they die instantly.
Most of these effects can be found multiple times per run. The effect is stackable, enabling powerful combinations. Thus, it is possible to create a specific “build” each time that allows you to progress far in Torghast.
The earned bonuses only apply to the respective run. They reset when leaving Torghast.
Changing events with new bonuses: It was also revealed that the tower not only changes from visit to visit but also over time. After a few weeks, for example, there is an event where the Jailer decides to fill the entire tower with certain wild animals. This alters not only the enemies in the tower but also the buffs and abilities available to choose from.
All this is meant to keep the tower fresh and interesting for a long time.
What rewards are there? Naturally, there are several rewards to be earned in the tower. These include mainly:
- Runes from which legendary items can be crafted
- Information about the Jailer
- Background information about Frostmourne and the Helm of Domination
Those who are only interested in “pure stats” will primarily hunt the tower for the runes and thereby legendary items. Whether there are additional rewards, such as cosmetic items (pets, transmog, etc.), is not yet known.
