In Patch 9.1 of World of Warcraft, players experience more of Tyrande. We reveal what happens to the leader of the Night Elves.
In Patch 9.1 Chains of Domination, the story is advanced in new chapters of the Covenant campaign. There is also more information about Tyrande Whisperwind and what happens to her in the future. Currently, she has quite big problems – and these have effects in the upcoming update.
Spoiler alert: This article discusses important parts of the story of Patch 9.1. If you do not want to be spoiled, you should not read on.
What has happened to Tyrande so far? Since the burning of the Teldrassil tree by Sylvanas in Battle for Azeroth, which wiped out a large part of the Night Elf population, Tyrande has been filled with rage. In a dangerous ritual, she asked the moon goddess Elune to become the avatar of her wrath: the Night Warrior. Elune granted this wish and transformed the former Moon Priestess into an even more powerful weapon of destruction. However, as Sylvanas could not be defeated, Tyrande dedicated herself to hunting her in the Shadowlands.
This happened in Shadowlands: Players of the Night Fae encountered Tyrande again. They could experience how the elf hunts through the Maw and Torghast, searching for Sylvanas. However, it seems that Tyrande is becoming increasingly consumed by hatred. While her power as the Night Warrior continues to grow, she is simultaneously destroying herself piece by piece.
The Night Fae are seeking a cure for Tyrande as a “subplot” during their campaign, but they only find partial success.
What happens to Tyrande in Patch 9.1? During the campaign, all players come into contact with Tyrande again. To help Tyrande, the player searches for former Night Warriors who are now in the Shadowlands. They are supposed to help relieve Elune’s wrath in Tyrande.
In the end, there is a large ritual in Ardenweald where many NPCs help to bring Tyrande and Elune’s power under control. However, the ritual proves to be quite strenuous. Tyrande ultimately loses control and attacks the players. Only by joining forces is it possible to stop and contain the frenzied priestess before a cutscene plays.
Although the sequence is not yet implemented, it becomes clear what the outcome is:
Tyrande is freed from the negative influence of the Night Warrior. Elune herself intervenes and saves the priestess’s life by taking the destructive energies from her. This also results in Tyrande’s eyes shining blue again after the ritual. According to the words of the NPCs, Tyrande is still the Night Warrior and can use that power. Only the negative influence and self-destruction seem to have been removed – temporarily or permanently.
What does this mean? Night Elf players who are worried about Tyrande can take a deep breath for now. The fear that Tyrande would die from Elune’s power is unfounded and the danger has been averted for now. It also seems her character is slowly beginning to change after the ritual. While she has not yet gotten her revenge, she is again able to focus on other things.
