Will everything get better with Battle for Azeroth in WoW? Not entirely. Some classes will even be “suboptimal”, admits the Game Director.
Those who are active in the official beta forums of World of Warcraft currently have to deal with many negative posts. Numerous players of certain classes are not satisfied with how their character plays in the new expansion Battle for Azeroth. Blizzard has now reassured these players and clarified that this will not change until the release of the new expansion. “Time is running out for us,” explained Game Director Ion Hazzikostas.
Team focuses on balance: The reason why some classes are now left “boring” is due to one simple thing: The developers are running out of time. In less than two months, Battle for Azeroth is set to be released, so the developers want to shift their focus. Instead of undertaking major overhauls, the emphasis in the coming weeks will be on balancing. At launch, every class with every specialization should at least be “playable” and in a good state balance-wise to keep up in dungeons or raids.
The affected specializations are: The biggest complaints about a boring or uninteresting gameplay currently come from Death Knights, Enhancement and Elemental Shamans, and Shadow Priests. With the removal of their artifact weapons and the redesign of some abilities, players are not satisfied with how their class plays.
Big changes in Patch 8.1: The salvation for the affected classes will only come with the major Patch 8.1, which will be released “sometime” after the launch – presumably around three months later, if Blizzard maintains a similar patch policy as in Legion.
It could get worse: Hazzikostas also explained that a major overhaul of classes “never succeeds on the first try.” When the developers overhaul a class, such as the Demonology Warlock recently, it takes time and multiple attempts. Since time is no longer sufficient, there is a risk that the state of a class may worsen further if immediate success is not achieved. Therefore, the developers leave the affected classes “for the time being” in a suboptimal state.
