One of the most terrifying and best events from World of Warcraft returns – the dreaded zombie plague is spreading again.
Currently, interested players can already try out the Patch 9.0.1, the pre-patch for the next expansion Shadowlands, on the PTR. In addition to numerous new features, such as the new leveling experience or the revised classes, the big pre-event for Shadowlands is also waiting. A part of this is the return of one of the most feared events of all time – the great zombie plague.
This City Must Be Purged… from r/wow
What was the zombie plague? Just before the release of the third expansion “Wrath of the Lich King”, there was a significant event. At various locations in the game, crates of corrupted grain could be found. Those who ate from it received a debuff and subsequently turned into a zombie. As a zombie, one was hostile towards all players and NPCs but could also infect them with the plague.
So this was about…An hour after people discovered this? The results were hilarious. from r/wow
This created total chaos. Entire cities were wiped out. Normal gameplay was nearly impossible. Only after a while, as the event continued and NPCs developed countermeasures, was the plague contained.
Will it return like this? Yes. At first glance, even worse and more intense than it was back then. At least initial images from the PTR suggest this conclusion. Because not only players and friendly NPCs can be infected, but all NPCs, including mobs, can also be turned into zombies that then attack non-infected creatures.
Chaos and madness are preprogrammed.
This is the PTR. NPC’s and Players can get infected. Ya’ll ready for this? from r/wow
Will the event be weakened? Whether the event will actually come in exactly this form or will be “nerfed” during the PTR remains to be seen. However, it is quite possible that the madness will diminish after a few days when countermeasures are found again to handle the zombie plague. Otherwise, the event could be too disruptive and keep players away from normal gameplay for too long – especially if the event lasts 4-6 weeks.
What do you think about it? Cool that this event is returning? Or rather a creepy reminder of social distancing in times of Corona?
