In World of Warcraft, the “hot phase” is starting again, where tens of thousands of players watch as a few professionals die to a boss for hours – the World First race is coming. This time it is against the big boss of the Shadowlands, the Jailer.
Why is this exciting? The “World First Race” is always a highlight of the respective patch for many WoW fans. The best guilds in the world try to complete the new raid on the highest difficulty first. The “Mausoleum of the First” comes with 11 bosses, making it a rather extensive raid.
As has become usual, you can follow the race for the coveted “World First Kill” of the Jailer live at mythic difficulty.
A few years ago, this race always took place behind closed doors – raiders preferred to keep to themselves to not reveal their strategies and possibly assist other guilds. However, it has now become a big event where several guilds cooperate to deliver an exciting show. The basic rivalry for the first kill is still present and has already led to some exciting neck-and-neck races in the last raids.
Which guilds are participating? Some of the most famous guilds attempting to secure a World First Kill or at least a good position in the global rankings are:
- Echo (EU)
- Method (EU)
- Pieces (EU)
- Aversion (EU)
- Team Liquid (NA) (formerly known as “Complexity-Limit”)
- Big Dumb Golden Guardians (NA)
Additionally, there are some Chinese guilds that usually take place a bit away from the media coverage.
Where can you watch? Most guilds stream their progress live – accompanied by casters who always inform about the latest status. Some of the most important streams are:
When does it start? For the American guilds, the race starts tonight (March 8, 2022), as the weekly reset takes place on the US realms. The European guilds will have to wait another night; they will start with a few hours’ delay on March 9, 2022, in the early morning hours.
The time difference occurs because the maintenance is performed at different times in the various regions. Therefore, while the US guilds have a slight head start, they often also face bugs and issues that are fixed by the time the EU starts.
How long will it last? This is still uncertain. In theory, such a race could be over within a few hours, but in most cases, the event stretches over several days and sometimes even weeks. Special critical points are usually the weekly reset on Tuesday (America) and Wednesday (Europe), as characters can gain new loot from the reward chamber here and soon wear several legendary items. This leads to a sudden increase in character power and can make the necessary percentage points to defeat a boss.
The race is particularly exciting: A special feature this time is that the last 3 bosses of the Mausoleum of the First, namely the Lords of Terror, Rygelon and the Jailer, have not been shown before. There were no public tests on these bosses, so the pro guilds are going into the fights more or less “blind.” It may take a while for the best players in the world to refine their tactics to overcome the last bosses and thus put an end to the era of Shadowlands.
