You can play the Pre-Patch 10.0 of World of Warcraft Dragonflight. The test realm is live – and everyone can participate.
The biggest innovations of WoW: Dragonflight can already be tried out – and that without beta access! The Pre-Patch 10.0 has been released on the PTR and can now be tested by everyone.
What can you try on the PTR? Especially the major system changes are already playable in the Pre-Patch, which mainly includes the revised talent system that has been fundamentally overhauled. But also all other class changes can be played and tested.
What happens to the talent system? In Dragonflight, each class receives multiple talent trees that resemble those from the vanilla days of World of Warcraft. Each specialization has two talent trees that are supplied with their own points.
- The 1st talent tree is bound to the class and offers general traits that this class inherently brings (Priest, Warrior, Mage, etc.)
- The 2nd talent tree is bound to the respective specialization, providing spells and abilities belonging to a specific specialization (Fire, Frost, Arcane, etc.)
In the specialization tree, there are many abilities that WoW players have known for years. Almost all abilities that are part of the absolute base rotation of a class must be unlocked here.
However, there are also many interesting new features and returning talents that come from previous expansions. Numerous covenant abilities from Shadowlands are found there, as well as old Azerite powers or abilities from former artifact weapons from Legion.
How can you try it out? If you want to take a look at the new talent system and other changes of the Pre-Patch in Dragonflight yourself, you need to download the appropriate client for the test realm. This can be done easily in the Battle.net app.
- Access the page for World of Warcraft in the application
- Click the drop-down menu under “Game version and account”
- Select “Public Test Realm (PTR)” under “In development”
- Click on “Install” or “Update” – depending on whether you already own a PTR version
Once the installation is complete, you can start the game and log in on the PTR to create a character and try out the new features.
However, note that everything you earn on the PTR or in the beta of Dragonflight will not be transferred to the live game. Your characters will be deleted at the end of the testing phase and have no impact on your live version.
When does the patch go live then? There is still no specific release date for the Pre-Patch. However, at least a rough release date can be estimated since we know some key data:
- Dragonflight is scheduled to launch in 2022, at the latest by the end of December, but could also appear in November.
- The Pre-Patch usually runs for 4 to 6 weeks before the release of the expansion.
This suggests that the Pre-Patch will likely be released no earlier than mid-October, and no later than the end of November. This allows for at least a rough plan.
Have you tried the PTR yet? How do you like the new talents?
