In Patch 8.2, players will encounter an old friend in World of Warcraft. The Orc Thrall makes an appearance – and he has a brand new model!
In World of Warcraft, it has been quiet around the Orc Thrall. After he handed over his legendary Doomhammer to the Shaman player in Legion, there was nothing more to hear from him.
With the upcoming Patch 8.2 Rise of Azshara, Thrall will make an appearance again. This even comes with a new model! He has shed his shamanic robes.
The model of a Frostwolf: If you take a closer look at Thrall’s new model, you can see many similarities to Durotan, as portrayed in the movie “Warcraft – The Beginning”. Visually, it corresponds to the more traditional appearance of a Frostwolf warrior. It seems as if Thrall is reminiscing about his origins in his old days.

Why a new model? That Thrall has received a new model indicates that he will soon play a larger role in the story. Normally, Blizzard only updates such characters when they are soon to appear in an important position.
Announcement already at BlizzCon: It was already hinted at BlizzCon 2018 that Thrall would be needed again. There, Chris Metzen (former story chief of Blizzard and the English voice of Thrall) stood in line with the fans and asked the developers a question. He wanted to know when “the real” Warchief would get his job back. At that time, the developers said with an amused tone: “Maybe a position will be free soon. When that happens, we will call you.”
Obviously, the call came, and Metzen was able to voice Thrall again. Whether he will take on a larger role remains to be seen.
How do you like the return of Thrall and his new model? Is it good that he plays a role again? Or were you glad that the “Green Jesus” was gone?
