The in-game shop of World of Warcraft might have revealed the next addon. Because the clues fit together well.
Update 09:15 AM: In the meantime, Mike Ybarra has spoken up and said on Twitter that the next addon will not revolve around pirates. So it remains exciting.
Original report: In about two months we will know the name of the next expansion of World of Warcraft – but even now there are plenty of supposed leaks and rumors. However, the most convincing clues so far come from Blizzard and the WoW shop. Because they are once again selling suspicious offers that fit wonderfully into the past.
What is so suspicious? In the World of Warcraft shop, there are repeatedly various package offers that later turned out to be suspiciously often associated with the respective next expansion. Currently, there is a package in the shop, the so-called “Seafarer’s package”, which brings not only a creepy ship but also a parrot and two other pets.
The theory is now: This is a hint that the next expansion will revolve around pirates and seafarers.
Have there been these clues before? If you look at the past of various mounts and offers, you have to clearly say: Yes, it has been the case before. For example, Blizzard suddenly had a package offering a few months before the announcement of the “Dragonflight” expansion, where you could buy numerous dragon mounts and pets at a discounted price.
Also, the “Sylverian Dreamer”, which was available for purchase prior to Shadowlands, fit into this pattern. It was a flying mount that was later also found in the Ardenweald of Shadowlands.
The same theory now exists with the “Wonderful Schnauzer”. This is a special mount that is currently available for a 6-month subscription. The model of the mount is a large fish that has not been used in this form anywhere in WoW before. It is therefore very likely that the fish is a model that will also appear in the next expansion – and that simply indicates an underwater or island area.
What else supports this? Not only the shop serves as an indication, but also the stories slowly woven into World of Warcraft. In the last patches, not only pirates appeared, but there was also talk of the “Nightsquall”. This is a night elf pirate who explored “the other side of Azeroth” and has now returned. He is currently trying to unite all major pirate groups under one banner to then sail back to the other side of Azeroth and secure the treasures there.
Whether there is any truth to this theory, we will find out in about 2 months. Because then BlizzCon 2023 will take place, where the next expansion of World of Warcraft will most likely be revealed.
Would you be interested in a “pirate” expansion in the South Seas of WoW? Or what theme would you like to see?
