Collectors in World of Warcraft can look forward to a really stylish otter – but some see it as just “another boring recolor”.
A few days ago, we reported that data miners in the Alpha of World of Warcraft Dragonflight had found an achievement. It was about collecting 500 mounts, which would then reward another mount. The reaction was devastating, which is why Blizzard has now made improvements – and it seems to please most fans.
What was the problem? The first reward for the “Thanks for the Carry!” achievement was a big yeti – basically a recolor of a mount that has been in the game for a long time. This caused an outcry, and large parts of the collector community felt cheated. After all, there hasn’t been a new collector achievement in several expansions, and the new one turned out to be extremely disappointing with an “old model”.
Blizzard agreed and promised improvements.
What mount is now available? The new reward for the “Thanks for the Carry!” achievement is the “Carrier Ottuk”. Ottuks are new in Dragonflight and are basically giant otters primarily used by the Tuskarr for travel on land and water.
The Carrier Ottuk is adorned and has numerous bone decorations, which are also inspired by the Tuskarr and fit their construction and clothing style.
This is how the community reacts: The feedback on the Carrier Ottuk is almost universally positive. Whether in the World of Warcraft subreddit (95% upvotes) or on sites like wowhead, almost everywhere the new reward is praised. Here are some excerpts:

- “Make it a two-seater mount and we have a deal.”
- “Much better, but there is still some room for improvement.”
Is there still criticism? Yes, there is. Some find it unfortunate that the reward for 500 mounts is probably a mount that cannot fly. After all, the otter does not look like it has wings hidden under its armor. Many players would have liked it to perhaps be a dragon or something similar, to take to the skies with the new mount later.
It is also criticized that there are other ottuk mounts in Dragonflight. Some would have preferred a unique mount for the 500 achievement, with no other variations existing.
