In WoW: Shadowlands you will be faced with a difficult choice. How will you decide? Which Covenant will you swear your allegiance to?
In World of Warcraft Shadowlands, there is mainly one big decision: the choice of a Covenant. The Covenant determines which of the four major factions of the Shadowlands you will fight for.
This not only influences your experience of the story but also the abilities your character possesses, as each Covenant comes with two unique abilities that even vary for each class.
Tied to the Covenant are also cosmetic rewards, such as stylish armor sets or different variations of “capes” – these can be wings, gravestones, or magical blades worn on the back. There are also additional fun elements, such as mounts and pets.
The choice of a Covenant thus significantly determines what you will experience in the Shadowlands and how your journey will change after reaching the maximum level.
What Covenants are there?
If you are not yet aware of the Covenants, here is a brief summary of the individual Covenants.
Kyrian: You will meet the noble Kyrians in Bastion. They live according to strict guidelines and separate from the memories of their past life before they become Ascended. They help the souls of mortals transition to the Shadowlands so that they can be assigned their fate by the Soul Judge.
Nekrolords: The Necrolords of Maldraxxus may look like the Scourge, but they play an important role in the Shadowlands. These undead form the army of the Shadowlands and defend it against attackers to maintain order in the Shadowlands. Only the strongest souls with a warrior nature end up here to continue honing their skills and become perfect soldiers.
Night Fae: The Night Fae from Ardenweald take care of the souls of deceased nature spirits and ensure that they are reborn one day. In Ardenweald, harmony and care generally prevail, which is granted to nature spirits and particularly nature-loving beings. For druids, hunters, and tree huggers in general, this is likely heaven in the… well, heaven in the afterlife.
Venthyr: When souls must atone, they come to the Venthyr in Revendreth. There, the souls are tortured and their Anima extracted until a final judgment is made. The vampiric Venthyr act as torturers but always have a possible redemption for the souls on offer – if one can endure the atonement. If you enjoy vampires and a dark setting, you will feel right at home here.
