In World of Warcraft players are currently annoyed by a problem. Their teammates leave the dungeon prematurely – leading to wait times for everyone.
In World of Warcraft: Shadowlands, dungeons are being run diligently, as the final preparations for the first raid Castle Nathria are underway. However, a problem is bothering many players. Some teammates like to leave the dungeon in the middle and cause annoying wait times for everyone else. The main reason for this is the system of legendary memories.
What is the problem? Many players are searching for the memories of the rune etcher. These are the legendary powers that players need to craft their Legendary Items. They can come from different sources, including bosses in dungeons. Some players sign up for a dungeon, play up to their desired boss, and then disappear silently from the group. The remaining 4 players then have to wait until a replacement fills the group again. Depending on the role, this can take a while.
This is also annoying for replacements: The problem affects not only the original players of the group but also the replacements. If, for example, the tank disappears after the 2nd boss because he could leave behind his legendary power, the replacement tank is left unsatisfied. After all, the most important boss he might need has already been defeated. This leads to even more frustration, causing even replacements to lose interest.
Would there be a solution? Yes. Blizzard could adjust the drop chances for the legendary powers so that they can only drop from the final boss of a dungeon. Then the players would be “forced” to play the dungeon until the end and cannot leave prematurely without being appropriately sanctioned. Such a change was also made by Blizzard in Battle for Azeroth regarding the loot of some bosses, which often led players to abandon the raid.
This is how players are reacting: In the World of Warcraft subreddit and the official forums, there is almost daily a post with players’ demands to move the legendary loot to the final boss of a dungeon. For example, celticbarrett writes:
It’s kind of funny that they implemented the low drop chance for dungeons to encourage people to visit the dungeon more often and then didn’t push [the legendaries] to the final boss, defeating the entire purpose.

Honestly now. I’m trying to gear up in heroic dungeons and in every single dungeon the tank or healer left after one of the bosses. People say “It’s not a big deal because the spot gets filled almost immediately,” but last time I had to wait 15 minutes for another healer. I can’t believe Blizzard didn’t see this coming.
There is no short-term solution for players – except to group up with friends and guild mates from the very beginning. Because they rarely leave a dungeon prematurely.
