The Pandaren Doubleagent is on the way to level 70. Even after a decade, he doesn’t want to leave the starting island in World of Warcraft.
In World of Warcraft there are a number of legendary heroes that reappear in every expansion. No, we’re not talking about characters like Sylvanas, Khadgar, or Anduin – but about a very special player. We are referring to “Doubleagent”, a Pandaren who simply cannot decide and has therefore been leveling through the only method available to him for many years.
He is back in Dragonflight as well, ensuring that his legend continues to exist.
Who is Doubleagent? He is a Pandaren player from the realm “Mannoroth”, who simply cannot decide whether he wants to belong to the Alliance or the Horde. He would need to do so to leave the starting island of the Pandaren – but he cannot. For many expansions, Doubleagent has nevertheless been leveling to the maximum level of the current addon. Although the mobs have been “gray” for dozens of levels and do not give any XP anymore, there remains a way for him to still collect progress:
He collects ores and herbs on the island.
However, each gathering only gives him a handful of experience points. It takes many hours to get just a single level-up.
The player behind Doubleagent revealed in an interview that he endures it by watching series or doing other things on the side. After all, he has had the farm routes in mind for several years, enemies cannot become dangerous to him on the island, and gathering is not particularly demanding.
Doubleagent has received multiple honors: The persistence of “Doubleagent” has reached Blizzard years ago, who have honored the Pandaren in several ways. In the monk class hall (Legion) there is an NPC that walks around in the background, gathering ores and herbs – a nod to Doubleagent. Hearthstone was even more direct and simply brought a card named “Doubleagent” into the game, showing a Pandaren tearing apart his Horde emblem while wearing an Alliance emblem underneath.
On the way to level 70, Doubleagent will still have to gather a lot of herbs and ores – but we can be sure that he will soon reach his goal of level 70. When that happens, we will of course report on it.
