Level Up Fast in World of Warcraft – there are many ways! But one way is more effective than all the others.
The big Patch 9.0 in World of Warcraft has been live for almost a week now. Many players are using the time to level up Twinks and benefit from the new leveling experience. In nearly all expansions, players are leveling between level 10 and 50 to prepare their characters for Shadowlands. But where is the fastest leveling actually done?
The answer is quite clear and had already become apparent on the PTR: The expansion Warlords of Draenor.
Why is leveling so fast in Draenor? The reason Warlords of Draenor works so well is due to several reasons that collectively offer a rounded, fast leveling experience, including:
- Modern Quest Design: The quests from WoD are quite “new”. There are hardly any long, time-consuming tasks. Quest givers are close to their mission goals, and the travel distances are accordingly short.
- Massive XP for “Gather Quests”: Upgrading the Garrison was an important feature of WoD. The quests for this are mostly very short and just want you to click on 2-3 things. But they grant XP as if they were a long quest series. These are essentially free bonus XP you just pick up.
- Countless Treasures: In every area of WoD, treasures can be found, usually 40 or more per area. These are purple-glowing items that can simply be looted. The treasures give a nice amount of XP upon pickup, saving you several quests. With an addon like “Handy Notes”, you can see all the spawn points of treasures on the map and easily collect them on the side.
- Follower System Grants Experience: In WoD, you can send your followers on missions in the Garrison. After some time, they return and can even bring XP for your character. Here too, these are bonus experience points that require no effort on your part.
- Flying Without Prerequisite: In Draenor, you can now fly upon reaching level 30 – the previously required achievement for this has been removed. This allows you to navigate through the relatively compact areas even faster.
All these points ensure that players receive a level-up reward every few minutes in Warlords of Draenor. Leveling faster than this is practically impossible.
However: The amount of experience points from bonus goals in Draenor has been massively nerfed. They are still lucrative, but no longer need to be completed mandatory.
How long does leveling take? This strongly depends on personal playstyle. For most players, a leveling duration of 10-14 hours corresponds to the average in Warlords of Draenor. Professionals who have perfected leveling can complete it in nearly 6 hours. However, those who are interested in the story and wish to take it a bit easier will naturally take longer.
Where do you choose an expansion? After completing the starting area, you can visit Chromie in Stormwind (Alliance) or Orgrimmar (Horde). She will be marked on the city map with a sand timer. Here you can choose a timewalking campaign and start Warlords of Draenor. However, this is not possible if the character is your first hero in WoW. Then you must level in Battle for Azeroth.
Where else can you level quickly? If you absolutely don’t want to play Warlords of Draenor, you can consider several alternatives. Leveling is also fast in Legion, Battle for Azeroth, and Mists of Pandaria. The expansions Cataclysm, Wrath of the Lich King, and The Burning Crusade are better avoided. Here, the quest design is still “old” and many tasks consume a lot of time, noticeably slowing down the leveling speed.
However, for newcomers, it is advisable not to focus too much on leveling speed. All expansions of World of Warcraft offer beautiful stories and interesting quest lines that reveal much about the lore. If you are not only looking to rush through quickly, you can safely ignore the tips and choose a different expansion to level with each character.
Have you leveled characters in Patch 9.0 yet? Or are you just recruiting a friend because now is the perfect time?
