Does Patch 9.2 of World of Warcraft mean the end for Sylvanas Windrunner? The story chief explains what will happen soon.
Even before the Patch 9.2 Eternity’s End in World of Warcraft was even released, there were many hints and even a special cinematic could be viewed on the PTR. The video shows what happens to Sylvanas after she regains the missing part of her soul at the end of the “Sanctum of Domination.”
But many fans are wondering: Is this now the end of Sylvanas as we know her? Is she now simply “good” again? The WoW story chief, Steve Danuser, has commented on this.
Where does the info come from? From a “Q&A” with Steve Danuser, the current story chief of World of Warcraft. In a conversation with the magazine Dexerto, he commented on Sylvanas’ development and what her state means for her.
What did Danuser say? Sylvanas and how she deals with the guilt of her past will be an important part of Patch 9.2. Her inner conflicts will likely be seen multiple times.
Throughout ‘Eternity’s End’, we will see much more of the story and we are working towards a resolution of the Sylvanas story arc – this is something that has been built up for a very long time.
Many players are concerned that “their Sylvanas” no longer exists. Because even though the Banshee Queen has gathered many enemies in recent years, there are still numerous fans who like Sylvanas as a character and are worried that the dark Banshee Queen is now simply the sweet “Ranger-General of Silvermoon” again. Danuser said:
Sylvanas is obviously very important to the events that led us into the Shadowlands… now that the two parts of her soul are back together, it doesn’t mean that one of them has disappeared. The Banshee Queen has not vanished, the Ranger-General has not taken over; it’s more that the two parts now need to find a way into the future. They need to become one being, one soul, and not this broken thing.
That there is more going on with Sylvanas than what has been playable so far is obvious. Danuser has confirmed that there is a “bonus chapter” that was not playable on the PTR. This should advance the storyline around Sylvanas and might even feature a cinematic:
But it’s not an easy road, and whether she can do it and in what form, you will see when you play through the new content. We are very excited about how the story comes to a climax. It will be shown as a chapter of the Covenant campaign, which we did not bring to the test realm for a special reason:
We wanted to hold back this last piece of the story so that players can discover it while playing the content themselves.
All players who are attached to Sylvanas’ old personality can breathe a sigh of relief. Because she will not suddenly be a completely different character. Danuser addresses these concerns:
It’s not as if one of these personalities has disappeared. If you look at the little, subtle things while playing the quest line or pay attention to what Sylvanas says and does, you will see that she still has her intelligence and ‘bitterness.’ That has not simply vanished – she just has this demeanor.
Is there more to Sylvanas? Pretty sure. Sylvanas is a quite important character for the Warcraft universe. And even though the next patches and updates will certainly place a significantly smaller focus on the former Banshee Queen, she will probably not completely disappear from the Warcraft saga.
We will probably only have certainty about this in a few weeks when the campaign of Patch 9.2 has fully unfolded.
