Cortyn has been hanging around in the war mode of World of Warcraft. And there is one thing that enemies should beware of: The Artifact Fishing Rod.
With Battle for Azeroth, players in World of Warcraft have the opportunity to switch to war mode and essentially play in a pure PvP environment. This is rewarded with additional XP, but it also brings the permanent danger of hostile players. And that is a lot of fun!
I admit: PvP is not exactly my forte. I occasionally win duels, and even in fair encounters, my priest sometimes emerges victorious, but I will never reach a high rating.
Still, I enjoy war mode a lot. It’s not just the additional experience points that are an incentive, but also the fun encounters.
I was just afk at a flight master when I was writing the article about the dramatic Jaina finale, when suddenly the familiar “Brrz!” of a Moonfire echoed from my headphones. A druid wanted to farm some easy honor points and tried to take me down while I was afk.
Since my gear is already quite solid, I was able to turn the tide quickly and chased the owl away. He dove into the sea and shapeshifted to escape as a sea lion.

Then I had a (rather rare) brainwave. After all, I still have my Artifact Fishing Rod in my bag, and equipping it allows my character to turn into a fish that speeds through the water. This way, the druid could not escape me, earning me a proud 10 honor points.
And what is the best feeling when a plan succeeds? Right, when the player logs out afterward and accuses you of cheating because you were “faster than a druid in the water.”
Even though it’s a bit mean, this satisfaction, this little feeling of superiority, was really nice.
At least until I ran into a group of Horde players who then turned my Draenei into firewood.
It doesn’t matter. I enjoy war mode and can only recommend it to anyone who also likes the extra thrill. PvP in the open world has never been more interesting – Battle for Azeroth really nailed it.
The Artifact weapon proves to be a loyal companion in chasing down all the players trying to flee across the open sea. Luckily, it’s also just as good for making a getaway…
