Mounts can be expensive. Really expensive. We show you the most expensive mounts that you can buy for gold in World of Warcraft.
Since the vanilla version of World of Warcraft, mounts have been something very special. Showing off with rare or particularly noble mounts has always been part of the DNA of Blizzard’s MMORPG.
There are many different ways to obtain mounts. Some are rare drops from bosses, others hide behind complex puzzles, and for some, you need to lay down a lot of gold to acquire them.
In this article, we show you the 5 mounts with the highest purchase price that are currently available in World of Warcraft.
If you’re more interested in quirky bugs, we have something here too:
We only refer to mounts that you can currently purchase directly from the respective vendors. Mounts that can no longer be acquired are therefore not included in this list.
Rank 5: Rustbolt Resistor
Cost: 419,430 Gold
Vendor: Stolen Royal Vendor Bot (Mechagon Island)
Back then, many fans were a bit disappointed that the big “Exalted” reward on Mechagon Island is a mount that you have to buy for a lot of gold. The Rustbolt Resistor is a mount that will likely please fans of mechanics. Spotlights, jet engines, Tesla coils – everything your heart desires. However, you also have to endure the constant, somewhat intrusive sound of the mount.
Little fun fact: Actually, the mount costs 524,288 gold. 524,288 is the number of bytes that fit exactly into 512 kb. Since Mechagon is fundamentally based on computer technology and machines, this is probably a little joke that the developers allowed themselves. However, since the price is reduced at purchase due to the reputation bonus, this joke is somewhat lost.
Rank 4: Palehide Direhorn
Cost: 500,000 Gold
Vendor: Talutu (Zuldazar, Horde), The Sly Nick (Tiragarde Sound, Alliance)

You have to lay down half a million if you want to be the proud (or poor) owner of a Palehide Direhorn. It is currently the most expensive “dino” mount that you can still buy in World of Warcraft.
The model corresponds to the large riding direhorns, which are primarily used by the Zandalari trolls in “Battle for Azeroth”.
The description of the mount says: “Light-skinned direhorns are quite rare, which justifies the price.” – Whether this is really true must be decided by each person alone.
