Tanks in World of Warcraft should no longer have to run away cowardly. New nerfs ensure that tanks can soon remain steadfast again.
Since the launch of WoW: Shadowlands, tanks have been complaining that they can no longer properly tank in many dungeons, but are just running away. Not surprising, as from around level M+12, enemies hit so hard that even well-equipped tanks can go down after just a few hits. Blizzard has listened to the tanks’ criticism and is now responding. A total of 7 out of the 8 dungeons will receive nerfs, and even one of the affixes will be weakened.
What will change? All dungeons except the Hall of Atonement will receive nerfs. The main focus is to weaken the attacks of particularly nasty enemies. Here are the changes in detail.
Affix for Mythic Dungeons
- Tyrannical now increases the health points of bosses by only 30% (previously 40%).
The Other Side
- Headless Client now deals 40% less damage in melee and Detonation deals 33% less damage.
- W4U-W4U now deals 33% less damage with Metal Jaw and now prefers non-tanks.
- Deathwalker of the Atal’ai now deals 25% less damage in melee and casts Gaping Wound less frequently.
The Mists of Tirna Scithe
- Drustseelenspalter now deals 40% less damage with Soul Splitting.
Plaguefall
- Rotting Slimeclaw now deals 50% less damage with Rusted Claw.
Theater of Pain
- The Unyielding Champion now deals 20% less damage with Treacherous Strike.
- Bone-Chilling Recruit casts Ruthless Slayer less frequently.
When do the adjustments go live? The changes will go live with the next maintenance. This should already be tomorrow, on February 3rd. Then the promised buffs for a total of 10 specializations, which have been considered too weak so far, will also arrive.
Nerfs add up: There have been a whole series of nerfs now. Just a few days ago, some dungeons were massively weakened – although some significant weakening was already done several weeks prior. Blizzard seems to be gradually approaching a tolerable level and has started with dungeons that were too hard. Bit by bit, tanking should now become manageable again – at least at levels up to Mythic+15. After that, wild kite action cannot be avoided.
What do you think of the adjustments? Was it about time? Or is Blizzard nerfing too much into the ground?
