Unlocking the “double Legendaries” in Patch 9.2 of World of Warcraft is becoming easier. But it also takes longer…
The Patch 9.2 Eternity’s End hasn’t been released yet, but the community of World of Warcraft already has a lot of criticism. One annoyance is unlocking the second legendary item. In the upcoming update, all heroes can use two legendary powers – but that comes with some work. Until now, a long grind was necessary, but this will now be significantly reduced.
What was the problem? Those who wanted to get the legendary belt and thus unlock the second legendary item as early as possible had to – according to the previous stand – complete all daily quests in Zereth Mortis for nearly 28 days straight. A grind that requires constant attention on a daily basis to be rewarded with the unlock at the end. A major hurdle, especially for players who cannot play every day or who simply do not enjoy daily quests.
What will happen now? The developers have significantly revamped the unlocking process. You will now automatically receive the legendary belt after completing Chapter 7 of the story, almost as a cherry on top for finishing the campaign.
The associated memory for the new legendary effect – “Memory of Unity” will only be available once you have a respectful reputation with the new faction – in addition to the requirement of having completed Chapter 7 of the story. However, the memory afterwards – like all legendary effects – is unlocked account-wide. So you only need to achieve respectful reputation once. All secondary characters will only need to finish the campaign to earn the belt, though it may well be possible to craft it yourself afterwards.

However, Blizzard emphasizes that many players will have already reached respectful reputation by completing Chapter 7. The majority of reputation should be gained through the story quests. Therefore, there won’t be a long and repeated grinding of daily quests – unless players are interested in the revered rewards or enjoy this type of gameplay.
Why is Blizzard doing it this way? There are several reasons. Firstly, Blizzard wants all players to unlock the bonus of the double Legendary around the same time – which would not be the case if it came with a lot of grind. Furthermore, a shift in unlocking is better, as it slightly nerfs the new raid “automatically”. Because the double Legendary might mean a significant performance increase of about 10% to 20%, which would make many fights easier.
A nice side effect is that in the first 2 weeks of the “World First” race, these items will thus not be available, and the race could remain exciting. Otherwise, if no winner is determined by then, the double Legendary would likely lead to a quick conclusion of the race.
Is it better now? Basically, the new solution seems to be well-received by many players, as it requires less grind. Even those who only log in occasionally and do a few daily quests should reach respectful reputation by the end of week 5.
What do you think of this solution? A good development that listens to the fans? Or did Blizzard do exactly the wrong thing here?
