World of Warcraft on Xbox. A dream for many years – and one that is now gaining new momentum. Were the rumors true?
Yesterday, a tremor went through the gaming landscape when the giant Microsoft “just bought” the publisher Activision Blizzard. For all fans of the Xbox Game Pass, this should be good news, as sooner or later several Blizzard titles are likely to join. But another rumor is getting new momentum and fueling fans’ hopes: World of Warcraft could come to Xbox.
What is this rumor? That World of Warcraft could also come to consoles has been a topic of conversation from time to time, and the rumor has surfaced many times. But it wasn’t until November 2021 that the rumor gained new wind (via gamerant). There it was claimed that Blizzard intended to present the Xbox version of World of Warcraft at the “Game Awards”.
The alleged leak – which was deleted shortly afterward – claimed in November that a “World of Warcraft Complete Edition” was supposedly found in the source code of the official Xbox page. However, this could not be confirmed afterward.
Completely went down the drain when it was said that Activision Blizzard would not be represented at the Game Awards, as the organizers wanted to make a statement against such a corporate culture.
Blizzard CEO fuels rumors: Additionally, the current CEO of Blizzard, Mike Ybarra, is stoking the rumor mill on Twitter. He revealed that he had seen “some fantastic product reviews” last week and is proud of how much developers are focusing on player wishes. He has a few more reviews pending and can’t wait to share the information with everyone.
What kind of reviews these are is still not quite clear. They could be new games, new content patches, but also new versions of already known games – such as a console version of World of Warcraft on Xbox.
Whether the long-held dream of “WoW on consoles” will finally come true will likely be shown in the coming months. But with Microsoft’s purchase, the chances of fulfilling this dream have drastically increased…
