The first tests for the new expansion World of Warcraft: The War Within have started. But when can you play the beta?
Even though the third season of Dragonflight is currently running in World of Warcraft and a fourth is upcoming, the developers are already hard at work on the next addon. “The War Within” is set to be released in 2024 – but already the first realm with the addon is online – although only a few can play.
What has been discovered? The colleagues from wowhead have found out that Blizzard has already updated one of the internal WoW realms to version 11.0 – which is the next expansion “The War Within”.
Only the developers usually have access to this realm, and very rarely their relatives (“Friends & Family Alpha”). Only a few features are implemented here, quests are largely missing, and many systems are still not accessible.
Is there already datamining? No. Since the data is only available on an internal realm in Battle.net, we only know that this server with The War Within already exists. However, the data is currently not accessible, so datamining has not yet begun. It will take some time before there are the first official images from The War Within.
When will the Alpha and Beta be released? There are no concrete dates yet for the start of the Alpha and Beta.
In the past, it has usually been the case that about 2-3 months passed between the first internal server and the start of the Alpha. This would mean that the start of the Alpha could be as early as February. This would also fit well with Blizzard’s schedule, as the Beta of The War Within is set to start in “Spring 2024” – likely in March or April.
This means that The War Within could possibly be released in Summer 2024 rather than in Fall (like Dragonflight).

How can you play the Beta? If you want guaranteed access to the Beta of “The War Within”, you can secure your spot through the pre-order of the “Epic Edition” of the game. Everyone else has to hope for luck and register for the Beta as soon as it is possible.
