Anyone who gets banned in World of Warcraft tries to avoid it in the future. The solution? An addon that prevents the ban because you can’t commit any offense.
Anyone who is online needs a thick skin. Whether in forums or games like World of Warcraft, you often encounter players who can’t really control themselves and throw insults around. That’s annoying enough, but fortunately, such violations are often punished.
On the other side are those punished and must deal with their account ban or think about how to be a better person next time.
The solution: Just program an addon that prevents you from using bad words.
Who created the addon? In the WoW subreddit, Grayvves introduced this addon. According to his own statements, he created the addon after being banned for insults in WoW for the umpteenth time. In his little introduction video, you can see that his account has a ban of more than 10 days – for that, you really have to get quite rude.
What kind of addon is it? The addon is called “Be Nice” and you can download it on various addon platforms, such as CurseForge. Once installed, the addon essentially monitors everything you want to type in the chat – regardless of the channel. If you use a swear word while typing, the addon will say “Be Nice!” and does not send the message. If you still want to send the text after the warning, you can add an exception to consciously bypass the filter.
This is how the community reacts: Looking at the corresponding post in the WoW subreddit, the reaction is quite divided. Some think it’s good that he uses the downtime from the account ban to bring about a real improvement. Others, however, do not understand why one can even be banned for swear words because it is “not that hard to avoid using them in the first place”.
At the same time, some also doubt the usefulness of this addon. Because people who tend to insult and are generally considered “toxic players” probably wouldn’t use this addon at all.
