After nearly 10 years, World of Warcraft finally makes the joke from South Park come true. Farm wild boars until you drop!
Several years ago, the creators of South Park sat down with the developers of World of Warcraft to create the South Park episode “Make Love not Warcraft”.
The episode tells the story of how Cartman, Kyle, and friends completely lose themselves in World of Warcraft – a feeling that most fans are likely familiar with. However, Azeroth is being plagued by a terror: a gamer who “has no life” and is therefore nearly invincible. He kills all other players and ruins their fun.
The guys from South Park are not going to let this slide and want to reclaim Azeroth. But to do that, they need to reach the maximum level (which was 60 back then) and cannot do it in the open world, because they would be immediately wiped out by the “man with no life”. So they devise a plan: to kill wild boars in the starting area, which only give a small amount of XP.
According to the calculations of the guys, it takes a proud 65,340,285 wild boars!
In the “real” World of Warcraft, that would not be possible. Because there, enemies only give experience points for a while. Once your character has a few levels ahead, weak enemies are no longer worth XP.
South Park gag becomes reality
As some users on Reddit have now pointed out, this joke will soon become a possible reality. With the upcoming patch 7.3.5, Azeroth will scale up to level 60. So, anyone who wants to can happily spend the whole day slaying wild boars in the Elwynn forest and grind their way to the maximum level.
The number of 65 million will probably not be accurate – but exact data will probably only be available once the update is live.
Shall we bet that at least one crazy person will level their character to level 60 in this way and then inform us how many pigs really had to perish?
Sometimes a joke from South Park just takes about 10 years to be realized.
