Two legendary items should be the maximum. “Whatever”, some players of World of Warcraft think and simply equip 7 at the same time.
Legendary items in World of Warcraft are important – especially in the current expansion Shadowlands. They make up a large part of character power and even grant new, passive effects. Therefore, these items are also drastically limited. A maximum of 2 can be equipped by a character at the same time, and only in very specific combinations – one would think.
Some players simply equip 5, 6, or even 7 legendary items simultaneously and thus have nearly infinitely powerful characters.
What happened? In the Subreddit of World of Warcraft, a video of a Twitch streamer was shared, who confronted the Jailer in the “Mausoleum of the First” raid in mythic mode. Just before the battle begins, the paladin briefly opens his character window and appears to do something unusual:
He is not only wearing 2 legendary items, as it should actually be, but rather 7!
Where does the bug come from? This bug is not entirely new. It already appeared on the PTR for Patch 9.2. There, many legendary items did not have the “Unique-Equippable” tag, which allowed players to equip multiple legendary items. The bug was fixed on the PTR, but evidently, another variant of this exploit has sneaked into the live version.
By exploiting a bug, it is possible to equip the “Unity” legendary in all possible slots. Although this only grants the associated passive effect once – the item level of 291 in many slots leads to massive character stats and an extremely optimized character. Such stats cannot be achieved with conventional gear.
Just the fact that one wears 7 items at item level 291 with exactly the best secondary stats makes the character much stronger than would be possible in the usual way.
Is it allowed to exploit this? No. It is impossible to stumble upon this bug “by accident” and then just as “accidentally” craft and use 7 legendary items. Anyone who exploits the bug should expect to receive a hefty account penalty in the coming days. Therefore, we advise all players against exploiting this bug if they care about their game access.
Of course, this is an unpleasant situation for Blizzard nonetheless, as one thought this bug had already been turned off on the test server.
It is only a matter of time before Blizzard fixes the bug and imposes account penalties.
