In an interview with mmorpg.com, the creators of Ashes of Creation explain the philosophy of their game and who the MMORPG is intended for.
Ashes of Creation specifically targets MMORPG fans
Who is Ashes of Creation intended for? Steven Sharif from Intrepid Studios explains: “If I want to play WoW, then I will start WoW and not another MMORPG. Why would I play another MMO that wants to be like WoW but isn’t?”
World of Warcraft has also opened the MMORPG genre to those who previously had no interest in this type of game. Blizzard’s MMO is aimed at the general public and is highly successful.
Ashes of Creation, on the other hand, is a game that has a more specific target audience in mind: MMORPG fans. Players who enjoy the social component and like to interact within a community of like-minded individuals. If other players are attracted to what is offered, they are, of course, also welcome in Ashes of Creation.
Ashes of Creation is an MMO for role-players: According to Sharif, players in Ashes of Creation will have many opportunities to express themselves. For example, those who want to become the owner of a tavern will get the chance. Then you are the one who offers other players accommodation and food.
No one forces you to complete quests, explore dungeons, or engage in raids, Sharif further explains. The Intrepid Studios provide you with the world in which you can go your own way. You can fully express your role-playing ambitions in Ashes of Creation.
Sharif says: No matter how you play Ashes of Creation, you will contribute to the development of the world and help ensure that the game remains for a long time.
Currently, stress tests for the upcoming Alpha 1 of the MMORPG are taking place. The new Alpha is set to start soon.
