Encrypted files in the current patch of World of Warcraft always attract special attention. However, it is particularly interesting when Blizzard secretly “slides in” during the ongoing patch. This recently happened. In a “cloak-and-dagger operation”, suddenly 5 new items from the PTR found their way to World of Warcraft, giving new strength to the leaks regarding the next addon.
What sort of items are these? Since the game data is still encrypted and the textures cannot be read, the exact appearance of the items is still uncertain. However, it is already clear that these are items intended for the back – essentially a type of cloak.
In recent times, Blizzard has repeatedly experimented with new “cloaks”. There are now various backpacks, floating blades, small murloc babies, and even wings of the Kyrians. It is very likely that these back items will also have a very special design.
What does this have to do with the new expansion? Fans are already speculating tirelessly. The fact that these items were pushed into the “live game” shortly before the announcement of the new WoW expansion on April 19 suggests that these are pre-order or “Special Edition” items for the next addon that players can unlock immediately after a pre-order.

Currently, many theories and leaks suggest that the next expansion will be called “Dragonflight” and will relate to the dragonflights, of which there are exactly 5. The number of new back items thus matches the number of the original dragonflights: Black, Blue, Green, Bronze, Red.
What kind of items could this be? The most common theory is that the item is a cosmetic dragon wing. Players have long wanted a type of wings as an additional character option, and a dragon expansion would be the perfect hook to introduce such cosmetic items – especially if the next addon could be about helping the dragonflights.
Of course, nothing is confirmed yet, and the encryption of these items will most likely be lifted on April 19, when the new addon is introduced. But until then, we all have time to dream a little and hope that the alleged Dragonflight leak proves to be true.
