Blizzard has released a roadmap for World of Warcraft. 6 major patches and an expansion await fans.
Even though everyone is preparing to quietly wind down the current year, the developers of World of Warcraft have revealed a whole load of information for the upcoming year 2024. The roadmap for 2024 is already set, indicating that the developers have a tight schedule.
What comes to World of Warcraft and when in 2024?
Patch 10.2.5 – Seeds of Renewal: The next content patch is coming in Winter 2024, so between January and March. Blizzard lists January as the release date. In addition, the patch includes:
- New quests to complete the story on the Dragon Isles (Epilogue)
- Quest line for the reclamation of Gilneas
- Dragonriding almost everywhere in the game world
- Dungeons with NPC companions
- Azerothian Archives (Story Feature)
- Dragon races in the shattered world
Patch 10.2.6 – Pirates? The announcement of Patch 10.2.6 is new. The roadmap only shows a skull with crossed bones behind it. What exactly this means is still unclear. However, speculation suggests that there might be some pirate content. After all, Blizzard had already hinted at new stories in Patch 10.0.5. However, no details have been revealed yet.
Season 4 as a conclusion: In Spring, between March and July, the 4th and thus final season of Dragonflight begins. All raids will become relevant again, and the Dragonflight dungeons will return to the “Mythic+” rotation. Other features include:
Patch 10.2.7 Dark Heart: The final patch of Dragonflight is titled “Dark Heart” – presumably a reference to the heart of Azeroth, as we will likely travel there during the next expansion. This patch includes these new contents:
- Timerunning Pandemonium: Still unknown, some suspect the return of the “Challenge Mode” from Pandaria.
- Harbinger Quests: A quest line that likely leads slowly to the next expansion “The War Within”. The “Harbinger” is Xal’atath, and she will likely begin to spread her chaos on Azeroth.
- Trolls and Draenei will receive their legacy armor along with corresponding quests.
- A new holiday event will be introduced.
Pre-Patch 11.0.1 in Summer: The major pre-patch for The War Within, which will bring several systems, such as new world events, the war squads, dynamic flying in the old world (with many old mounts), and updates to guild systems.
There is no exact date yet, but the timeline shows the entry at the beginning of Summer – so likely July or August.
The War Within: At the end of Summer or the beginning of Autumn, “The War Within” is expected to be officially released. This means four new areas, eight new dungeons, a new raid, and of course the major new features, such as hero talents, the “Depths” as endgame content for solo players, and the Earthen as an allied race.
Patch 11.0.5: Still in 2024, Blizzard plans to release the first small patch to expand the world of “The War Within”. So there will be new quests and more story that will likely lead to the first major patch 11.1, although this might not appear until 2025.
When does the beta for The War Within start? Also visible on the timeline of the roadmap is the rough start date for the alpha and beta of The War Within. Please note that these are rough estimates and no fixed dates are known yet.
- The alpha of The War Within is expected to start between Patch 10.2.6 and the beginning of Season 4 – so in late Winter 2024 or very early Spring.
- The beta of The War Within will begin much later, only at the end of Spring or the beginning of Summer – so likely in May or June.
