The Epic Edition is the most expensive of all WoW versions of Shadowlands. But who is it worth it for? And who should steer clear of it?
The upcoming expansion of World of Warcraft comes in several versions. The most expensive – at least in the digital realm – is the Epic Edition. But is this luxury variant of the addon worth it at all? Or should you simply opt for the Base or Heroic Edition? We will clarify all the pros and cons and reveal for whom the Epic Edition is ultimately the most worthwhile.
The WoW: Shadowlands Epic Edition at a glance
What advantages does the Epic Edition of Shadowlands bring? The Epic Edition is a proud €75, making it the most expensive of the digital Shadowlands variants. It is almost twice as expensive as the Base Edition (€40) and still €20 more expensive than the Heroic Edition (€55).
In return, the Epic Edition offers a wealth of content. Besides access to the base game – which all other versions also offer – there are a variety of bonuses and advantages. While they are not necessary for gameplay, they equip you with additional pets, mounts, and even a character boost.
In total, the Epic Edition includes:
- The base game WoW: Shadowlands
- A character boost to level 50, which makes your character ready for Shadowlands.
- The flying mount “Enchanted Everbloom”, which also starts a quest for the transmog set “Robe of the Eternal Traveler”.
- The cosmetic weapon illusion “Ghost Frost”.
- The Eternal Traveler’s Hearthstone.
- 30 days of additional playtime.
- The pet Animawyrmling.
Note in the questline for the transmog set that you can also accept the quest even if you do not own the mount. You can ask other players with the mount to share the quest with you, even if you do not have the mount yourself.

Where can you buy the Epic Edition? Like all digital Shadowlands versions, you can purchase the Epic Edition in the Battle.net shop from Blizzard. You can find it directly in your Battle.net app.
This is the main argument for the Epic Edition
The biggest argument for the Epic Edition is clearly the wealth of cosmetic rewards. While they are gameplay-oriented, the Eternal Traveler’s Hearthstone can also fulfill a real utility. Normally, the Hearthstone takes up a slot in the inventory. However, the Eternal Traveler’s Hearthstone is a toy and thus goes into your collection. The collection is a separate place where added items do not block inventory slots. Thus, you save a space in your bag.
However, it should be noted here: There are also other, free Hearthstone toys that you can earn in the game. The argument about the additional inventory space only applies if you do not already possess another Hearthstone toy.
Note also that the pet Animawyrmling is a battle pet and can also be used in the “Battle Pet” system. The Anima Wyrmling is a dragon pet that only uses undead and magical attacks. It is not considered particularly useful in PvP in the community, but it can help in some fights in PvE.
Whether these bonuses justify a €20 surcharge compared to the Heroic Edition depends entirely on whether you enjoy participating in pet battles and collecting toys.
