In WoW Shadowlands, you all need to choose a covenant. But how do you make your choice? How important are style, story, or character strength to you?
In World of Warcraft Shadowlands, the choice of covenant is a significant and meaningful decision. Characters can join only one covenant at max level. There are four to choose from, and they are the leading factions in the different areas of Shadowlands.
What do covenants offer? Covenants have a fairly broad range of bonuses they provide. Each character gains 2 new abilities – one for all members of the covenant and one for the corresponding class. On top of that, there are “soulbindings”. These are small talent trees with passive additional bonuses. But a covenant has even more to offer.
There is a complete campaign that further elaborates on the covenant’s story and uncovers new, interesting aspects. Additionally, covenants offer a variety of cosmetic rewards. This includes the impressive armor of the covenant as well as cool items like wings and possibly even some mounts.
The choice of covenant is crucial: Once decided on one of the four covenants, this choice cannot easily be changed. While it should be possible to switch covenants if you think you’ve made a big mistake, it comes with some effort. There will likely not be a repeated “back and forth”, so the choice is more or less considered permanent.
What covenants are there? In total, four different covenants are available in Shadowlands. You will only get to know all covenants during the leveling phase and then have to decide for one of the four at level 60 (the new max level).
- Kyrians: You will meet the noble Kyrians in Bastion. These blue, angelic beings stand for order and a regulated, controlled process in the afterlife.
- Venthyr: The vampiric Venthyr encounter you in Revendreth. They oversee the “punishment” of souls that are held accountable for their actions.
- Nekrolords: You will find the Necrolords in Maldraxxus. They form the armies of the Shadowlands, and only the strongest warriors end up here.
- Night Fae: The Night Fae await in Ardenweald and take care of nature spirits that have died in their world.
How do you decide on a covenant?
But we don’t really want to know which of the covenants you choose – rather, we want to know what criteria you use to select your covenant! Are you mainly concerned about the strength of your character? Are you interested in the coolest style items? Or do you even choose the covenant based on the most interesting story?
