The next expansion of World of Warcraft is likely to be playable soon. The first hints can be found in the Battle.net app.
World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth was one of the least popular expansions of WoW – you rated it extremely negatively. It’s no wonder that many players wish for Battle for Azeroth to finally come to an end and the new expansion Shadowlands to be launched. At least initial hints for the alpha have already been found. New files in the Battle.net app indicate this.
Where does the information come from? The colleagues from wowhead.com have discovered “catalog updates” in an update of the Battle.net app, allowing the app to support an encrypted version of WoW: Shadowlands in the future.
Shortly thereafter, wowhead reported that the first “Alpha Version 9.0.1” has now been discovered in the Battle.net. These files are still encrypted. Encrypted data cannot yet be searched by dataminers. This will only be possible when the data is released, which presumably coincides with the launch of the alpha.
When can you play? There is no specific date yet. Typically, Blizzard first conducts an internal “Friends & Family” alpha, where only family members and friends of the developers can take a first look at the game. After a few weeks, the closed beta usually starts.
Since Shadowlands is supposed to be released in 2020 and a date in the autumn seems quite likely, the alpha and then the beta are expected to start within the next few weeks.
How can you sign up for the beta? So far, Blizzard has not revealed a way to participate in the beta. Previously, it was done directly through the account settings on the Battle.net website, but this function is currently missing. As soon as Blizzard announces a way to register for the alpha or beta of Shadowlands, we will report on it.
It seems that the wait for new information about Shadowlands will soon be over, and we can expect a flood of new information.
You can still use the remaining time to earn these cool mounts:
