World of Warcraft is getting its next expansion with Shadowlands. Originally, one of the main characters was supposed to remain a secret for a long time: The Jailer. However, his identity has likely been leaked – through artwork.
Who is the Jailer? The Jailer was briefly introduced as a silhouette with glowing blue eyes during the presentation of WoW: Shadowlands. However, not much is known about him yet.
His home is located in the endgame zone “The Maw”, where, according to the story of Shadowlands, far too many souls disappear, disturbing the balance of power in the Shadowlands.
So far, we only knew about the Jailer that Sylvanas has allied with him and that part of the story will likely revolve around him. However, his identity has now been leaked.
How reliable is the leak? The leak comes from YouTuber Pyromancer, who has previously made leaks about the release of Shadowlands. However, his channel also builds on theories like the connection between Gallywix and the “King of Diamonds.”
The artwork seen, however, looks quite authentic. It could be real information, but it should be taken with caution.
The Jailer in WoW: Shadowlands – The new antagonist
This is what the Jailer looks like: In the leaked images, it can be seen that the Jailer somewhat resembles the Titans in Antorus, especially Aman’thul. The chains that appear to be shadows are apparently part of his armor. He might not actually be bound.
His crown strongly resembles the crown of the mad king Leoric from Diablo, who later returned as a boss in the form of the Skeleton King in Diablo 3.
By the way, the Jailer is supposed to be found in the “Forge of Domination,” part of the Tower of the Damned: Torghast. There, the Helm of Domination has already been forged, the headgear of the Lich Kings with which they command the Scourge.
From there also comes the architecture of Icecrown Citadel. It is possible that the Jailer is something like the “Proto-Lich King” or the first Lich King.
What role does the Jailer play? The Jailer is the “main antagonist” of Shadowlands, meaning he is the actual opponent of the expansion. His designation in the artwork book is “Maw Boss,” which could mean that the Maw or Torghast will become a raid where the last boss is the Jailer.
