Cortyn from MeinMMO is now “fully leveled” in WoW Shadowlands. However, there was one thing that stood out negatively.
I have reached level 60 after a night of gaming and I must say, I have really enjoyed Shadowlands so far. My experiences from the beta have all improved, and overall, I am extremely satisfied with how smoothly the launch of the 8th WoW expansion went. However, there is a small detail that bothers me a bit. While leveling, the Shadowlands do not fully scale. This leads to strange problems.
What is the problem? The areas of Shadowlands do not completely scale to level 60 during the leveling phase. Of course, there is a set quest order, but Blizzard has also set level caps for that. In Bastion, enemies and quests only scale from level 48 to 53; after that, the opponents and quests no longer scale.

Why is this bad? For me, this was a bit annoying. My plan was to “thoroughly” play all areas from the very beginning and complete every side quest. However, this meant that I reached level 54 in Bastion (the first area) and then suddenly realized that the enemies and quests were yielding significantly less XP. Instead of 12,000 experience points, a quest then gave me only 8,000, and it even dropped further down to 6,000.
Basically, one could now say: “No problem, if the quests turn green, just head to the next area!” – But that is exactly not possible in Shadowlands. Since the story is linear, I had to finish Bastion before I could continue to Maldraxxus. Here too, after about half the quests, I had the same problem, where enemies and quests once again turned “green” and thus less rewarding.
The further I progressed in an area, the less rewarding the quests became. This meant that particularly the last missions that were supposed to conclude a storyline felt especially bad, as they only minimally advanced the XP bar or had weak enemies as targets. Here, I would have liked all enemies to scale up to level 60. The lower level limits for areas could still have been maintained.
It felt like the game was “punishing” me for wanting to play thoroughly and take every side mission and treasure. That left an unpleasant aftertaste.
Still, I want to say that this is really just a drop in the ocean and complaining at a high level. It would have rounded off the leveling experience a bit more if the areas had fully scaled with the level. So, you do experience a small dampening and are – at least with the war mode activated – better off leaving the side quests for later and picking them up after you’ve chosen a covenant.
Did you have this problem while leveling too? Or did everything go smoothly for you?
